I think this one’s official! I don’t know of any bugs at the moment, other than the continued difficulty getting TEMIS data in Windows 7 - but you don’t need that now that (thanks to Chris!) we have ozone data in the McMahon GFS data (though you can still use TEMIS, too).
I’ve pretty much updated the web page (maybe one or two things to update). The new upgrade is at
I do have a caution/request/question: As I was doing final testing, and installed from the above (or maybe it was from the demo installer), and then tested wxsim.exe, when I had it start wret.exe (under File/Retrieve data, I think), Malwarebytes suddenly “accused” wxsim of being ransomware! It blocked me from using my own program, that didn’t even come from the internet! I put it on the “safe” list and had to reboot, and then had to replace it (old shortcuts got wiped out, too!). I then tried scanning it, and it didn’t see a problem anymore - not even that it was ignoring a threat. I even recompiled wxsim.exe using VB6, and gave that another name (so it wouldn’t be on the safe list), and ran it, and even scanned it directly, with both Malwarebytes and Windows Defender. Same with the installers. No problems.
I have no idea why Malwarebytes did this. I tried to report the false positive, but couldn’t get Malrewarebytes’ site (I am a paying user) to let me on the forum to inquire about it. I hope wxsim isn’t on some bad list now!
Anyway, please feel free to scan it with whatever you use (including Malwarebytes). I wish they just had a number I could call! I couldn’t even get the chat feature to work. Let me know what you find, and thanks!
Don’t know if this is just me or if it’s a wider problem.
After downloading GFS/ECMWF/etc data I have WxSimate set to run Euromix. When Euromix launches I get an error box titled “euromix” and text “GFS data not found in”. The input file is ‘c:\wxsim\wdata.txt’ and that appears to have GFS data (home and advection) in it and in what looks, superficially, to be the correct format.
I got this with beta6 so I upgraded to the new full release and I still get it.
It’s fixed. I added a new value to a configuration file and accidentally added a blank line to the bottom of the file. The file is included in all the WxSim scripts so all the output got a new extra blank line which threw WxSimate awry.
Sorry about that, and sorry for waking Tom up to a problem early on a holiday weekend!
If you have the WxSimate option "Customize | Only download GFS/ECMWF if new data’ turned on then turn it off for your next run to make sure you get new files downloaded.
I am still running the 2021 version and mine did the same was planning to upgrade to the 2022 tonight
I think it caused wxsimate to stall on the 12:07 download and had not closed by the 15:07 run I forced an update to bohler and that sorted for now I,ll switch back having now read these latest 2 threads
Just downloaded the latest with the usual Microsoft defender objections have to keep clicking keep anyway that was about 6 times just to get it saved to my laptop put on computer that runs wxsim and when run got an unsafe program did run anyway then opened the programs and they opened OK.
I have the wxsim folder and the folder i put the updates in excluded from defender scanning i have to do this otherwise defender quarantines the programs and the short cuts as Tom found out I have been doing this for about 2-3 years now
my next run is due 21:00 so will post an update later
