I’m having a couple of issues with WD and I’d like to ask for help since my feeble brain has tanked on me. I’m using WD 10.37c (build 12).
the program’s responsiveness is very slow. when I watch the WD clock display, it stalls for 15 to 30 seconds at a time. when it recovers, it does so where it’s supposed to (ex: the clock will stall at 12:10:15, then 30 sec later it’ll pick up at 12:10:45 as if nothing happened). this happens once a minute or so. when the clock stalls, I lose all responsiveness in the program. for instance, I’ll try to open control panel, but it won’t open until the stall is over. once in control panel, I’ll try to open the webpage/WDL module, but it won’t open till the stall is over.
when I first noticed this, I thought perhaps there was something else running on the pc I was using (an AMD Athlon 2600+ with 1 gig RAM on an Asus A7S333 mobo running Win2k), but closing everything except WD doesn’t change the situation. and when WD is closed the pc runs normally. so I reinstalled WD on another comparable pc on a fresh Win2k install, but the same thing still happens.
I’ve just moved my website (www.njvoorheesweather.com) from my own server to a hosted server. I’m also using WDL from that server as well. when I had the site running locally, I was able to get WDL to update several times a minute. now on the hosted server it’ll only update once or twice a minute. the override for clientraw.txt is off, and the only place set to send clientraw.txt to the server is on the WDL control panel page.
any clues to any of this? your help is appreciated. many thanks…
For number 1, always at the top of the minute. WD stops updating the console while it does it’s work behind the scene. I believe Brian has mentioned this before, that WD needs all the processor cycles it can get to perform it’s functions in a timely fashion.
For number 2, you can set the frequency via the realtimeftp for updating the clientraw for WDL. Maybe post a screen grab of your realtime setup page.
the program is only time-stamping the webcam shot. the shot comes from elsewhere (not local to this pc), and is sent to this pc via the network. so WD isn’t doing the webcam capture.
I didn’t think to check the program error log. the log shows tons (literally tons) of “Invalid GIF signature”. not a clue where that might be coming from. the only other entries are the “normal daily resetting” entries.
yes. I’m assuming (perhaps wrongly?) that I need that to get clientraw.txt into the wdlfiles folder for WDL as the main ftp is just putting it into the home directory.
I will try this. I’m assuming you mean to install the program on the same pc in a different folder, right? I’ve already moved it from an older pc to a newer, cleaner one with the same result.
ok. I’ve finally had the time to try the idea above. the second “clean” (no settings) install runs ok. so there’s something up with my main install.
just to recap: WD stalling was happening on a previous pc, so I moved the install to a new, clean pc, and the problem still exists. then brian had me try installing WD with no settings to a different directory on the pc, and that install worked fine.
brian, I hate to ask, but is there a settings file (or some other file) I can send or post so you, or anyone else, could take a look to see if I’ve created a problem somewhere? I know you’re very busy, but I’d really appreciate it. perhaps you’d be able to see something that I’m not able to…
