Sorry this is not a question, I was not sure where to post this.
I now have the client viewer working perfectly, (Thanks Brian for your help) so I thought I’d give it a try at running wd on my laptop as well. This also works ok.
When I restarted my laptop this morning, and then restarted wd, it worked ok apart from the extreme weather readings were the same as yesterdays. They did not match the host machines readings. I can only assume that the client copy of wd reads a file that is located on the client machine for this information. This is not a real problem for me.
I use a program called Remote Desktop Control, as you can guess by the name it allows you to control other computers on the LAN. I have found it allot easier to control and view wd this way, as I am only maintaining one wd i.e on the host machine. Wd can be viewed and controlled by the client, so in theory you could do away with the monitor on the host all together, and hide your weather station only computer in a cupboard some where. Depending on the speed of your LAN, you may experience a slight delay in controlling wd, but i find this allot easier, than having to correct some data when you restart.
So this is how I view my data, I use client viewer if i just want to quickly see whats going on, and remotely control the main wd software if i want to see or print of graphs etc.
It just seems easier to me to maintain one copy of wd, rather than two.
I agree with the above, although I use Real VNC. I experience almost realtime data updates, and thats across a wireless net as well. Definately a worthwhile consideration.
I think the extreme weather conditions are stored in the WDISPLAY.INI file - ie particular to each PC - oh no, I may be wrong, its in the Registry entries I believe (again particular to PC) - I’m at work so I will need to be corrected!!
Mark64, I run WD in client mode on my lap with the server running on my weather computer. It displays the max/min readings just fine for me. One thing to try is to set the locations of the logfiles and datafiles again. I think I had to do that once in the three years I’ve been running WD in client/server mode.
Also, running WD ‘headless’ on the main computer is quite common.
Ok the weekend is here, so i thought I’d try running wd as a client on my laptop again. However I cannot get wd on my laptop to display indoor temp. I have the server set to send the indoor temp, and i have checked settings on the client machine. I know this is not a major issue, but it is annoying.
yes, the extreme settings are in the wdisplay.ini file
as for indoor temp, with WD client set to stationless mode, the indoor temp/hum is turned off…
try though say selecting a WS2010 station type (and then restart WD)
I have indoor temp showing on my client. It’s on the wind speed graph and can be set up in graph setup under the Solar/Misc tab. I’m using stationless mode.
OK, I’m stupid #-o I was sitting here looking at the console, and forgot that the PC was connected to the other console that’s sitting in another room
Hi,
I have set up viewing from a remote PC using a LAN with TCP/IP.
Although the wind direction, speed etc show up in the graphs, the dials don’t seem to work, nor do the figures in Average and Current wind speed.
Is this right?
Also I don’t seem to be getting any rainfall figures, although again they are in the graph.
Hi Brian, thanks for your reply.
The barometer reading at the moment on the Irox console is 29.81 inches local.
This is also showing on my laptop (the server) and PC (client) but as 30.059 inches as I haven’t set this up properly yet.
ok, so its just the client version that has problems
do you have the server version set to create a clientraw.txt file?
then set the client version to use that clientraw.txt file in the client/server setup in the ftp/internet setup
try that
