Space Weather addon page for WD-AJAX-PHP-USA

Got the script up and running after messing with some permissions, but now Im seeing another issue. What would stop the images from updating on their own? If i delete the images in FTP and refresh the page, they get updated, but they wont on their own. Any ideas? Thanks, Mark.

Version: 1.1 - 24-Oct-2009

Hi Mike,
iā€™ve a problem with the new version of your script.
The forecast about 3-day solar geophysical isnā€™t available.
Probabily Chmod problem?
Thanks,

Alessandro

Hi
Will this work with world mml template? ( I know it says USA template but thought Iā€™d try it, any chance of making it available for world mml?) I have it installed but getting ā€œerror 003ā€ where the images should be. I have changed permissions to 777 and set chmod to 0 to no avail.

How often are the images updated? Today is the 24th and:
The 3 day forecast is for the 23rd
The solar wind is for the 22nd
The auroral map is for the 21st
The x-ray flux is up to the 22nd
I canā€™t see the others dates because they are too small.

What to do if you get Error 003 displayed in the images.
Description of the PHP error:
cannot write to file, you need to adjust the server permission settings.

Solution:
This is a PHP error telling you that your server is setup with too strict file permissions,
not every server is the same so it is not possible to give you one specific solution.
Try changing the folder permissions(CHMOD) to 755, 717, or on some servers 777.

Here is a tutorial on how to change folder permissions using your FTP program.

If your host has PHP safe_mode = on, this will cause many PHP scripts to have permission problems and errors.
Ask your host to turn safe_mode off, safe_mode was determined to be a bad idea and will be removed from PHP6.

The 3 day forecast is updated every 3 days, the next update should be on the 26th.
My images are current as of today. Not sure what caused that but you should update to the latest version because I updated all the image files to a new improved version of my image handler script.

Mike,
Iā€™ve added this great plugin to the plugins reference page for the WD/AJAX/PHP templates.
Thanks so much for generating this informative page/plugin.

Best regards,
Ken

BTWā€¦ to make it XHTML 1.0-Strict (like my site), I did three things:
1)changed the

into a and moved up the tag for the 3 sun images.
2) removed the target=ā€œ_blankā€ on all the elements (not supported in XHTML 1.0-Strict
3) changed the <img ā€¦ border=ā€œ0ā€ /> to <img ā€¦ style=ā€œborder: none;ā€ /> on all the image statement
then it validates as XTHML 1.0-Strict

Ken, in this new version I used

instead of the table change so that the ā€œReal Time Images of the Sunā€ title stays aligned left.

Version: 1.2 - 24-Oct-2009

  • XHTML 1.0-Strict compliant code (even though the template uses XHTML 1.0 Transitional)
  • added links in the credits.

I updated to the new version a few hours ago and the new sun images uploaded, but the old images did not update. Now after a few hours, the sun images are giving a ā€œerror:019ā€ message. I changed all the file permissions as we discussed the other day.

error:019 means the image server was not online, it could not download the image from it.

I think the SOHO image server is down for scheduled maintenance.
http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/
ā€œExternal access to ESAC will be unavailable due to network maintenance on 24th October 2009 between 00:00 hrs and 05:00 hrs GMT.ā€

Thanks Mike for your script,
It running at http://www.meteocarmignano.it/wxspace.php

When viewing your page I get error 019 from the first two images

Duh saw your explanation later in the thread. Will update my page to the new version today

Hi All,

I updated my Space Weather page www.dwayneyamato.com/wx/wxspace.php it seems to be working except the the first two images have an error or 007 instead of 019 that I was seeing on Mikeā€™s page. Is James Bond coming into the picture.

Thanks Mike for another great update.

That is because the SOHO image server is down for scheduled maintenance.

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Did read the previous explanation about those errors. Just wondered if there was a difference between the two numbers. Will see when the servers are back on line.

Thanks again.

mike.

Can you post some tech background on this info such as is it world wide valid or just for a regional area,

I like the page but do not have the knowledge yet to decide if it is valid in my area of OCEANIA (New Zealand)

Mike

Great script, I have added sunspots to your excellent page, sometime ago I wrote a badly writen script but it works to add sunspot number to index page, below sun image, then I added more to the astronomy page and finally a sunspot page with last 30 days.

Thanks for the great page /scripts

If anybody interested in the code, just ask, needs sorting
Phil

Edit
Script can be found here http://discourse.weather-watch.com

I am no expert on this at all but I think the solar activity effects the all earth, so yes it is relevant to New Zealand.

Also dependent on the magnetic field (IMF) and Earthā€™s tilt.

Should be getting some activity shortly, as there was a weak C Class flare last night followed by a weaker one this morning.
