Settings for wunderground webcam

Hi
I am trying to make weatherdisplay upload to the wunderground webcam site. I cant fathom out the settings, I just basically dont understand. I,m sure its simple !! #-o

Could anyone please point me in the right direction on exactly what needs to be done, step by step guide etc

many tks in anticipation

Paul

do you have a webcam file available to upload?
(and wunderground likes it to be of a certain size range)
then you need to sign up for the wunderground webcam uploads at wunderground
then you set up wd to upload the selected file, and you use the username wunderground gives you (the password is the same as your normal wunderground login)
note you need to wait for things to start working on their end

Paul,

Step one is to signup at WU where you will get a special WebCam upload username.

Then in WD under Control Panel - WeatherUnderground there is a button that says Setup Webcam Upload, click that.

You will need your WU Webcam username, WU password and then select the file to use.

Then select the times for uploads and Turn On…

Allow some time for the first image to appear.

I have my new wunderground cam username and password.

So I dont need any other settings apart from what you have described.

Can you clarify what you mean by what “file” to use, what should this be

I am not using any webcam software, just allowing by sony camcorder to run through a firewire card into the PC

many tks
Paul

you need to have a webcam image file created and updated on your pc , which is then uploaded to wunderground

So the WD webcam exe doesnt really capture an image ? despite there being an image on the screen

sorry for being a little thick

If you can figure out a way for your camcorder to create a static image every minute or so then you could use that but I have no experience with using a Camcorder as a webcam…

-Bob

yes the wdwebcamcapture program captures an image to a file
if you have set that up
in the file save setup

Brian
Tks, can you juet explain that a little bit further please if possible

cheers
Paul

Hi Paul,

The webcam capture programme (when opened) has a row of tabs along the upper edge and one of them is called “file save”…open that tab and you’ll be able to make the settings that you require…

Here’s what mine shows as an example…

There are extensive FAQs etc on the Forum and plenty of threads discussing setups that people use. Have a look at some of the recent ones using the “search facility” and you’ll soon get the idea of what to do…However, there are plenty of folk here that will get you up and running if you run into difficulties.

OK - tks for the screenshot. I have used exactly the same as yours.

Q - do I have to create the file name somewhere or does WD create the file
Q - How do I know that its working ? - nothing showing up on wunderground as yet
Q - Do I need to type “webcam.wunderground.com” anywhere

tks
Paul

Paul,

You need to make sure WD is creating a static image, usually named webcamimage.jpg somewhere in your WD directory. You need to set the directory for the webcamimage to be saved in and the frequency in the setup page.

Also check your FTP log and see if you see WD uploading that file to WU.

-Bob

OK…Mine was just an example…obviously each image is a separate file in its own right…Those images are saved to a nominated (or created) “directory” within WD…My sub directory is within WD and the Webfiles directory…If you open explorer you can see the individual image files being created within the Directory.

Since I set my Wunderground upload settings, Brian(Windy) has enabled an automatic webcam upload feature within WD/ControlPanel/Wunderground…setup webcam upload (lower right of panel)…fill in your correct details there…

Edit: I see Bob has got in front of me …However, this thread might be of help to you as there are settings discussed there

I have checked the FTP log and its not uploading

“31 User bramptonweatherCAM1 OK. Password required
PASSWORD=****
230-User bramptonweatherCAM1 has group access to: 1000
230 OK. Current restricted directory is /
TYPE I
200 TYPE is now 8-bit binary
145: Can’t open LocalFile for reading.”

I assume from that my local file is there ?

Paul,

What do you have set in the webcamcapture file save screen? There should be a directory and a file name listed…

For a standard webcam you also need to make sure time stamped file creation is turned on under Control Panel - Web Cam however as yours is not a standard web cam I am unsure what you need versus me…

-Bob

Current settings

and

Is WD creating a current jpgwebcam.jpg image in your webfiles/webcam directory? If so make sure you have also chosen that file for the WU uploads.

Also if all the above is correct and it still isn’t uploading then try and enable the file save (every minute) in Web Cam from Control panel…

-Bob

OK - fingers crossed I think the image is now being uploaded.
