Just started getting, for the last 48 hours, these messages right after WXSIMATE runs for my forecasts. (please see attached)
I checked my computer time with the time set in WXSIMATE, both correct and also set to DST.
The best that I can figure out from the messages, is that it would appear to be from the RAOB option from the WXSIMATE 9.2 page.
Hi DopplerDavid
I am having the same problems. Seem to remember last year similar happening. I am East Coast Australia (AEST) and our DST doesn’t kick in until the 1st of October. Have checked all the spots in WX and all are clear to match my computer time. Thinking that the data being collected is annotated DST for us??
cheers Steve
Still getting those messages today and using that “proxy” address that Tom set up in April,
Original address was http://weather.rap.ucar.edu/upper/current.rawins
I would imagine yours would be different being that you are in the UK?
Guess the best route to resolve my issue would be through Tom, though he is back at school teaching his classes, so it may take a while.
Not having RAOB input is surely affecting my forecasts, but not sure to what degree.
Good to hear from you and your first post to the forum!
Sorry to hear that you have had some issues similar to mine.
Not totally sure what is causing the problem at this point.
Hopefully yours have now been resolved?
If not, I will pass along any details once I have a fix.
Dave I currently use weather.cod.edu/digatmos/upa/ which is one you can select with the up/down arrows and it works fine for me, I have last mult 12 checked and all 3 sites and assume 1 hr lag ticked so unless Tom’s proxy does something special it should work. If not then Tom’s the man!
Sigh… http://proxy.wxsim.net/cod/digatmos/upa/ via the browser asks for a user/password sign in, and when one is not provided, returns 401-Not Authorized, same as when RAOB is enabled in WXSIMATE for ucar.edu site.
I’ve currently turned off RAOB collection to bypass this issue.
I have the same selections as you with only that Proxy address being different.
and according to what you and Ken are saying, I should be on the weather.cod.edu/digatmos/upa/ address.
I will make the switch and see if the RAOB continues to get hung up.
Maybe back in April Tom suggested the proxy address because the weather.cod.edu was temporarily down.
The funny thing is, that it was working okay until 3 days ago. very weird !
Will let you know.
What you are saying makes sense, and why I was getting those messages.
Hopefully when I switch addresses it will resolve the problem. (fingers crossed)
Well, the problem persists.
After switching to the weather.cod.edu/digatmos/upa/
I now have noticed that in the “site” field, at the top left corner of the WXSIMATE screen, it now says “RAOB” instead of my METAR site number.
Not sure if this is normal while WXSIMATE is trying to download the RAOB Info.
Mornings DopplerDavid
Still the same this morning no change. Have used all the prompt URL’s and nothing. Tom’s excellent, I usually email him but thought this time to check the Forum. Hoping Tom can fix it.
Cheers Steve
Not sure what’s wrong with the site: I’m getting an error 401 “unauthorized”. I’ll look into this, to see if I can find how to get to the site, or if there’s another source I could put in there instead. meanwhile, you can simply UNCHECK RAOB. It will have only a slight effect on the forecast (probably not even noticeable), as the GFS and ECMWF data pretty quickly (within the first three hours of the forecast) “take over” from the RAOB data anyway.
Hi Steve,
I just got an email response back from Tom and he said he will check it out ( he got a peculiar response when he tried the link also.)
So, he’s "on the case ! "
Feel free, if you haven’t already done so, to let him know that you also are having the same issue as me.
I have just checked and I am getting error messages but have them suppressed on a scheduled run! I am currently seeing no SYNOP RAOB and on this run GFS etc as well!!!
Stuart
Edit getting 500 errors from Chris’ servers right now! Bohler data is OK but obviously no ECMWF data. I have emailed Chris.
Tom is excellent. Since using his software nothing is a problem and his attention to fixing glitches and his genuine interest in his clients is exemplary.
Cheers and thankyou for your reply, much appreciated!
Steve
I don’t know yet, but will look into it. Fortunately, these are relatively low priority items (I don’t use SYNOP at all, as METAR has far more coverage) and have little effect on the forecast. However, I would like to figure this out or find alternative sources.
