New Ftpupd.exe version -> 4x faster!

Hi
I had recently updated (from 7 years ago!) the components I used for email to allow SSL (secure email, e.g to gmail)
but that also came with updated components for FTP-> result, 4 times faster ftp upload speed (in testing here!)
check it out! :headbang:
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/Ftpupd.zip
i.e unzip to where you have WD instaleld (make sure the Ftpupd.exe is not already running)
Its vers 8.92 of the Ftpupd.exe program

Its in beta testing, but its working here OK
(should mean less ftp probelms too, because its faster (and so less errors likely, and also will mean less chance of 2 lots of the ftp program running at the same time, etc)

note to make sure you let your firewall let the updated program through

(note, this component upgrade was not cheap, so any donations for the cause gladly accepted!!)

This is great news for webcam video uploads too
Update: now included with the latest .zip update of WD, since its working so well, and I will update the full install with it too now

d/loaded, and running. First, I closed WD, and my realtime FTP. I then d/loaded, installed. Then restarted WD. I had to allow permissions for Windows live One Care. Seems to be working so far… Donation to follow…
Thanks again Brian for making a GREAT product better.

Yes that’s working and very fast by comparison… ftpupd reporting around 9kB/sec before and now 73 kB/sec on the new version ! ( on a ~ 0.9 Meg upstream DSL connection here… )
Good one Brian!

Really looking forward to this huge improvement step esp with the full size videos and 640x480 pics and animated gifs… i am sure some problems will disappear!! Respond tonight after loading new version.

untick use internet sharing, in the connections setup
(why do you have that ticked?)

( i need to get that working I see)

update
that share option works now (for me):
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/Ftpupd.zip

you should not have that in use unless realy needed though (it just slows down the start up process)

WOW Brian!

I have seen several good improvements this week in WD, first 1-wire screen fixed what seems speeded whole WD up, noted also extraction from VP is done now with superspeed and now this ftp, my ftp get superspeed now , great job, Brian!
Thanks for doing this Rolls Roys-software even better!

Worked for me briefly, then started (apparently) keeping the directory used for anything weather upload instead of picking up the proper directory for the rest of the uploads, gets an error, tries the correct directory, then quits.

Permanent connection, will do ftp now
Checking for what else to do…
there are 1 more things to do

141: 550 weatherdisplay: No such file or directory
CWD web now trying the correct directory
250 CWD command successful
Doing abort procedure/program close… and aborts

Because:
Check box “I have internet sharing over a LAN (May not be needed)”

Is probably misleading. Because I do have internet sharing over a LAN and I had ticked the box…

Why or when would it be needed (to tick the check box)? Is the check box necessary?

Unticked now, and loaded new version and is working fine and fast - Thanks.

Graeme

Working very well, things are flying now!! Best thing since sliced toast... 444kb/s max... great! My thanks are winging their way to you via Pay-Pal!!

Internet sharing is old technology dating from the Win9x DUN (Dial Up Networking) days where one PC acts as the gateway to the internet (originally through a modem) for others that are networked to it. Maybe the note could be changed now that routers are very common.

yes, thats what its for…its a wake up of the connection…

I seem to be having a problem with bld 14…the new ftp open up no less then 6 diaglog boxes in my taskbar and my computer’s resources go’s to 100% being used…I’ll intall an older build to see what happens.

Jim, this update should fix that anything weather directory problem
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/Ftpupd.zip

also people make sure your firewall is set to allow the update through
re error: what does the error say

The latest one did the same thing:
CWD weatherdisplay
550 weatherdisplay: No such file or directory
141: 550 weatherdisplay: No such file or directory
CWD web
250 CWD command successful
Doing abort procedure/program close…

It seems to hang onto the anything weather directory info until it gets the “no such…” error message, then does the CWD correctly, but aborts.

I also have an issue with the CWOP feed. I FTP the info to a local linux server, rather than transmitting it via ham radio, and it connects but doesn’t send the weather string:

Aprs data sending now…
APRS Connecting to: ksaprs.homelinux.net
Doing abort procedure/program close…

the new ftpupd.exe is much faster and works fine outside of those two issues. They’re probably unique to the way I have things set up, so don’t spend a great deal of time on it. I’ve no problem using the earlier version.

Jim

actualy, the CWOP data is not working for me either
I know whats wrong…its because that works on a separate timer
let me see what I can work out…

for the CWOP not working
try this update
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/Ftpupd.zip

I tried, but had to change back to an older version: ftpupd.exe crashed after each 10 min- update to CWOP…

i have tested and its OK with CWOP data send on its own…i.e only thing sent (i.e click on test in the CWOP setup).
also I have updated again…so try a fresh download…
it should now say, will do CWOP data send at the end,…
But I might have to make it so that the cwop data send is done via a separate .exe program

Oops, I just checked, I have nothing updated for the last 12hrs. Will update to latest version.

TK

I’m afraid so, Brian, because while sending the update to CWOP ftpupd.exe still crashes.

Oh and yes, manual update is OK as you mentioned!
