Mac "Solar sensor in a jar" issues - (Resolved in build 15)

Thanks Bill. OK I rechecked every screen in that control panel and data logger is not there.

the -100 and 100 are just starting values for max/min temperature from the extra sensor (i.e they would get beaten once data arrived)
the problem at the moment is that for some reason the extra temp/hum data is not being decoded on your mac version
I will add some debug code
but also, is it a temp and hum extra sensor or just temp only?

It is the THGN123N (cold weather down to -40c) sensor. Senses temp and humidity.

Thanks Windy. No problem, just update me when your ready to test with the debug code. Glad to help out.

Jim

I don’t know if the Mac version is/will be like the Win version or not. On the Win version my extra sensors are all 3 temp/humid sensors. OS channel 1 sensor shows up on WD as channel 1(temp) channel 2(humid). OS channel 2 sensor shows up on WD as channel 3(temp) and channel 4 Humid. And OS chan 3 as WD channels 5 & 6. I was all confused at first. But, I understand it now.
I assume that yours will show up as channels 1 & 2.

Thanks for the heads up Bill. I will keep that in mind when I get this working. I can’t believe all the help I get on this forum!

Lah lahhh la lah lahhh I have da Soooolar!!

Thanks to Windy’s new build 14 last night, my extra temp sensor, and of course my solar in a jar, is now functioning!

It is cloudy right now so not a good time to post screendumps , because there is a little black square on the main screen that all it ever seems to say is 50.0 % Solar, 0.3 mm ET. Now in the solar current raw reading it said 34% in these cloudy conditions and the icon changed! whoopie! then it went to mostly cloudy with a 0% raw reading and stayed there. I don’t know the difference between the raw and the main screen percentage but I am betting it’s as a result of the calculation of the max solar time of day maybe? correct me if I am wrong please.

As soon as the sun comes out I will post my screen dumps for you and close this thread as resolved.

Windy, thanks for your hard work on this one through 2 updates in the past couple days. Amazing support!

OK it’s daytime (and raining again), and I think Solar is working with one exception.

The icon is not allowing over ride when raining. Instead it is mixing the solar and the rain so I get today “Mostly_Cloudy/Heavy_rain”

Here are the screen dumps. Note that I have the settings all done as per KTrue’s tip on solar icon settings.

ideal

Update for today on Solar Sensor: Seems to be an intermittent issue of the readings not calulating.

OK, I looked at my icon and noticed that it was showing overcast and solar at 0% on the graph, but 50% in the black box… when it was sunny… so I went to the Solar raw reading and took a screen dump for you showing it wasn’t calculating percentage.

I restarted WD Mac and waited a couple minutes and the solar % came back to the grapha and the icon changed to sunny. I took another screen dump (see pic 2 )and changed no settings.

But a few moments later the same thing happened, solar graph went to 0%, the black box said 50%, and the raw reading said 0%, but the temp is about the same. (See pic 3)

Outside temp is 19.3 and pic 4 is my solar setting. Still very sunny.
Any help is appreciated as usual.

Jim

Lol … but it was overcast at the time 0% solar

lol, I think I bumped my own post above with that remark.

Did you get that info 3 posts up Windy? It seems to be happening regularly.

Brian is away this weekend.

Update. OK I already posted my icon description text override issues in another thread, and all there was left to deal with in this thread is the issue described 3 post above.

After testing for the past week, I think this issue can be attributed more to slow screen updating than a bug, per se. Although it can be duplicated, there is no question that solar sensor in a jar on the mac is actually working well and updating the website with regular readings.

IMHO this issue is really more for the watch list than as a bug report. Very happy with my solar sensor in a jar!

Thanks
Jim

I need to add to the mac/linux versions the ability to set the solar averaging period different to the default of 10 minutes (for solar % setting the conditions)

latest mac version update, i have fixed a bug with the averaging of the solar for setting the icon
and also recent rain/recent showers , a bug where that would not show up, has been fixed as well
(i.e when major things are fixed in the windows version I also update the mac/linux version as well)

This is great Brian. Thanks. The solar is updating the icon from start up over about a 10 minute period to full sun which is fine. Is there a setting to change the averaging period? (would work great for a partly cloudy day with faster averaging possibly.

I have to wait a few days to test the recent rain function.

WD Mac is really looking great here!

Jim

i will add the ability to set the averaging period this coming week some time…

By the way, can anyone tell me what the caption in this summary means as per the attached pic… “2 days, 41.64%”? I think its related to Solar but really have no idea what it is. Just noticed it today.
Thanks

its the moon age and %

ahhhhhh. So… that works!

Thanks Brian.
