Lost 6 hours of data today

good that you are making progress (by clearing out the registry entry settings to start fresh)

Yeah, yeah, lol

I didnt even know it was possible (manually) i thought it happened uninstalling WD, i
only happened accross the link in the action menu by mistake, i was looking for
sommat else…

Anyway, my apologies for any undue work i may have caused you Brian and thanks
Actually, i aint gonna count any chickens yet…will wait till the morning

I have even got my site back to normal, just need to finish it now lol

also make sure you do not have set to minimise at 3am or free memory, under help, about
(only compatible with win98)

Could you clarify that? There used to be two memory options there, ā€œfree memoryā€ which was deleted some time ago (when you updated the memory manager) and which was only good for W98, and ā€œminimize @ 3:00 AMā€ which is still there and I thought was good for the later OS’s (I use it on W2K). Are you saying minimize shouldn’t be used with Vista, or is this just something to test in the case?

just something to remove from the mix when trouble shooting the vista problem
i see Bashy’s data is still updating, 6am his local time ,so it has not crashed during the night

Sorry for the late reply, went bed…

Yep, your right Brian, not crashed during the night, this is the 1st time since i made this thread

also make sure you do not have set to minimise at 3am or free memory, under help, about (only compatible with win98)

I have never used that due to seeing somewhere else on the forum that it shouldnt be used for
Vista.

so, looking good at present, although i have lost about 1 month of data, but i aint too fussed as i
only started a month ago anyway, so i have just started totally afresh

Thanks to everyone that has replied and touch wood, i will only be replying to let ya know it aint crashed

Whilst i was creating an image in MS Paint a minute ago, WD restarted, Nothing else, nothing reported

I do have these in my log but there from last night

Normal daily resetting wind/temperature daily value , day: 9
Above error or program log occured at :00:00:00 09/09/07
Normal daily resetting rain daily value , day: 9 rain today 0.0 mm
Above error or program log occured at :00:00:00 09/09/07

Those are the normal daily resets at midnight. Just info not a problem.

Ok, thats good to know, thanks Dave, Will it say something specific if it was a proper error?

Yes it will. Can’t give you an example right now because… I don’t have any. Sorry couldn’t help myself. I can run WD from M$ update to M$ update without problems. I believe it really boils down to OS, installed software, and hardware. Some of us just have the correct combination. However, Brian has always been able to make things work in the end over the past few years I’ve been here. Don’t give up even though it gets frustrating. You’ll be running good before too long.

–Dave

I m8, i certainly wont give up as the software is far beyond my understanding, there is so much for me to learn
When it restarted a few mins back it might have just been a conflict with MS paint, i just done know, what i do
know is, it restarted and didnt hang or give me a popup that i needed to click before it restarted so that is a very
good thing, it should mean that i will not have to worry about it if it crashes in the night

I will just have to monitor it and see whats what, i really dont want to put XP back on but if it comes down to it
then i will have no choice, i would prefer to do that than change from WD

do you have ticked to restart if no data received for last 10 minutes in the misc setup?
if so, then you should not have that ticked, as your station type sends data without it needed to be requested
(i.e if the data stops arriving then thats a com port problem of some sort)

Ah, ok, will untick that, there is another option about restarting the pc opposed to
login or sommat like that but i cannot find it, where is that setting please?

Still running strong this morning, looks too be sorted

OK, thought i cured this…

This morning it crashed from about 3:44am (i lost all the data for the UK storm this morning) :x

I thought nothing of it untill now as its just had a really big chicken fit and spat out a load of
runtime erros:(

Please see the 2 images, thats as much as i know about this error, I aint got a clue where to
look for any more info?

Bashy, see my post I just made in chatter about DEP.

Cheers Loony, I have now enabled every exe in the WD folder

Will see how it goes, It must be sommat i have running thats conflicting though
as its the 1st time its crashed during the night for ages :frowning:

OK, thats it…

I got home form work today and WD crashed at about 8:00am i lost over 10hours of data
today, actually in total prob about 14 hours, reason being i decided to go back to XP, i
cannot afford to keep losing data like this, I am pretty gutted about loosing Vista as i
thought it was the dogs nose pugs…

What i have doe is stolen yesterdays data and modified it slightly for today so the hole
aint as big, perhaps not the most accurate but i prefer it to a 13 -14 hour gap

Oh well, lets see how things go now…

did you have wd installed in c:\wdisplay and not c:\programfiles\wdisplay ?

Yes he did Brian. He had lot’s of the same problems with Vista and WD that I’ve had.
