Lost 6 hours of data today

Ok, Not amused, Woke up at 8am, WD not responding since about 6am…

It has to be a setting in WD thats doing this, although since the format
the issue has changed slightly, this time there was no popup, WD just
stopped responding. I have it set to reboot the PC if no data received
for 10 mins but that didnt work, I have the crash thing running and that
didnt work…

I am saying it must be WD due tot he 1st couple of weeks it didnt do this.
Then it started all of a sudden. I then format comp and restore WD and it
crashes bear in mind nothing else crashes, ONLY WD…

I am out of options opposed to starting again with a fresh install of WD.

What is the best way to do this please with out loosing data but loosing
all settings of WD, not that i want to go this route but my options are limited

Have you tried the second, fresh install route, to try and see where the exact problem may be?

Well I would try the second install route, slowly add functionality to it and let it run for a bit each time until either A: it is running normally or B: it starts to crash at which time you would have a better idea what specific area is the cause…

Well i have done a fresh install of vista and wd so i will see what happens tonight Bob
If it crashes/not responding in the morning then i will go down that route, Thanks for

I feel for you.

I’m the last one to be giving any advice about web pages but… I just checked your web site and much info is being updated due to having them AJAXed except for the stats page. I think you could recover a lot of your work by doing a ‘view page source’ and then saving those as txt files. I know the tags won’t be there but at least you would know what you had. Since they appear to be pretty much the stock web templates you could cut and paste the needed tags etc. from the templates.

Just a thought.

To be honest, i am sort of used to it now, I have lost many gigs of data
over the years just by not watching what i am doing, tis my own fault.

As for your idea, i like it and will go use it once i sort WD out, I dont see
much point in sorting the site until i have a fully working program
Down side is, i wont find out till i get up in the morning… What a pain

try build 15?

Lets just say i dont use norton and leave it at that
I went to build 15 again last night, but theres many issues with build 15 one of which i reported!

btw crashed again early hours of this morning, thats another 5 hours (using build 15), although i started again from
scratch yesterday, with a fresh install of WD and the day before with a fresh install of Vista

I am not aware of any debug version? I will go to the downloads and take a look, found it :oops:

i have not made any changes to the solar setup thresholds for a long time
and
you dont want to set a 0 for any of the readings for the solar in a jar for starters anyway, I did add that reply to your post

and, testing with the latest .zip build 15, i am able to change the thresholds for the solar sensor in a jar no problem

also, I see there is another thread were someone reports that the dallas 1 wire drivers are causing problems in vista
i.e you are using a dallas 1 wire solar sensor?

ok, issues in build 15 are:

1. Crashes as and when it wants to.
2. Cannot adjust the .0 setting (in temperature low/high thresholds) i can in build 10, but not 11 upwards (so deffo sommat wrong there)
3. Will not show the heat index on main screen (checked at 22^oC)
4. Solar will not show on main screen (will in build 10, not sure of others but not 15)
5. Solar will not show on graph (will in bild 10, again not sure of others but not 15)

btw, its a home built solar using the OS temp probe

Where does it save the .elf file please as i cannot find one and it crashed about 5 mins ago

This was in the program error log

Above error or program log occured at :17:11:01 08/09/07

WDL crashed at 4:59pm (that was the last recording) so it looks like the above error
was not the reason as the time is different?

Dont matter, I have deleted all evidence of WD again, even from the registry this time #-o

thats a lack of available memory
how much memory does your pc have?
(as vista uses 1 Gig itself)
(turning off Aero helps)

I can, so you should be able to, latest .zip
heat index is also fixed in that latest .zip

I have 2gb and at present only 50% is used!

Since removing all traces of WD inc registry i can now adjust the .0 setting

Since doing the above i can now see solar on the main screen, need to
wait till tomoz before i can get any proper readings

Looks like it was a corrupted registry file/s that was causing all my problems.
