Logitech QuickCam 4000 Zooming

Hello,

I have a Logitech QuickCam 4000 connected via WeatherD, it works very well, other than… The QuickCam is always put into Zoom mode. After an afternoon of testing, it strongly looks like it is due to the way WeatherD is initialising the Cam. I have tested 3 other programs that can be setup to use the QuickCam, and when they initialise, the Zoom is off, which is the default setting. The Logitech site indicates that the cam will always have zooming off, one has to press a button to turn it on each time.

John

hi
which configuration scren/button in the web cam setup is the one needed to unzip?
i dont purposely set it to that mode or anything…can you turn it off then…but is it then not rememebered?

Hello,

I’m not sure which button to unzip you mean?

The zoom setting is not remembered, and the default (zoom off) is set when an application initialises the cam, however I bet there is a way of initialisation that can set the zooming to on, even by accident.

John

The zoom setting is not remembered
can you post a screen shot of that setup/button?

Hello,

Here are the Property pages for the cam.

John

Hello,

I have just found a some VB source code that grabs the webcam and outputs it to a window, which works fine, i.e. zooming = off.

Would you like it emailed to you for reference.

John

all those screens are from the actual drivers supplied with the web cam software…i.e they are not part of WD…
and so the needed setting is also part of the interaction between the web cam component in wd and the web cam software drivers
but i guess their must be a way…
i will contact the author of the component

Hello,

So is it that you also want the ‘Capture Setting’ tab screenshot from WD?

John

what i need to know is what button you need to click to get to the settings screen where the setting is defaulting wrong

Hello,

If you look on the properties screen shot ‘Zoom/Face Tracking’ tab you will find a tick box called ‘Enable Face Tracking’, when WD starts up this gets ticked by WD, suspect via some programic method. Also if I do no catch it quick enough, I have to also hit the ‘Reset Zoom’ button, as the cam them tries to zoom around the garden.

It also looks like over night, this zoom option gets set back on. This cam is dedicated to WD, thus I could not see how any other program would carry this out, so to prove it I tested it over night with out the cam connected to WD and the zoom option does not get ticked, so it definitely something WD is up to.

John

those camera control screen you see are from the camera drivers, and are not produced by WD…so that is the underlying problem…
but there must be a way to ensure some default settings, but i am no expert, and it could take a while to hear back from the author of the software, sorry

Hello,

The middle ware you are using must be the culperate, as I can ont make this occur with other web cam software, be it a simple grabber or motion detection software, hummmm. Time is not such a problem, but fixing it would be great. The only other method I have is to use another grabber and let WD do the editing/posting of the images

John

Hello John and Brian,

My Logitech Pro 4000 also does the exact same thing, which I always attributed to the Logitech camera software. I have even found posts referencing the same problem with Image Salsa so it does not appear to me to be WD directly related.

Whenever I start the Logitech I get the Face Tracking control pop up and I have to disable face tracking. The same thing happens when I start WD which enables the Camera. I have looked at my camera settings and I have been unable to find somewhere to simply disable face tracking completely, which for my needs would be the optimum result

Hello Bob,

I suspect whatever Image Salsa is doing is the same thing on init of the cam as WD. As you would have read above I have tested a number of applications, in fact about 5! now, none enable the tracking option. I have also found some VB code which I have compiled, again no issue. Another oddity is that when WD resets over night the tracking gets turned back on. I have also tested an over night with the VB prog, no issue, no tracking enabled in the morning. There is probably a way the logitech camera likes to be enabled/reset, a bit picky. I have looked all over the place for a software developers kit to try to find out what causes it and how set and unset it, however, no joy :frowning: Logitech used to have an SDK but it seems not now, how short sighted.

John

Just to add my 2 cents. My Logitech 4000 is doing the same things. I’ve tried every thing and every where to stop the face tracking and it always returns the next day. I have to stop it manually each time. In fact I have my camera in a window and would like to keep one step of zoom in but it also resets along with turning on the &^%(# face tracking.

I mentioned a while back about the zoom not staying off and learned to just turn the zoom off each time I restarted WD (not very often, usually during an upgrade).

what wd does now is stop and then restart the web cam , becuase after 2 weeks its seemed to go stale
and so that is what must be resetting the zoom
so i will add that daily reset as only an option then!
next version , 10.24c will have that

I use a Logitech 4000, and have NO problems like this. I use WD to capture the images and not Logitech or 3rd party software. Face Tracking is maintained as OFF and ZOOM is off/0%

My setup screens are like JohnnyBoy’s above. Anytime you stop and restart the webcam the face tracking is turned back on. Brian, giving us the option to turn off the overnight stop / start will help a bunch. Thanks for doing this.

Hello,

Well the latest release 10.24c has stopped the over night ‘face tracking’ from coming back on, well done. One less job to do each day.

John
