My clientraw is not being created. It appeared to stop at about 0210 this morning. After messing around was able to recreated a clientraw somehow at 2:26:36. Everything else is updating.
What I didn’t do:
Look at or use WD computer for about 3 days
Change any settings
Add or remove any software to/from computer
Touch WD for about a week
What I’ve done:
Updated to the latest full version 10.37a build 21 real time Client raw FTP, vers 4.7
Rebooted computer
Ensured Real time client ftp setup is correct and uploading.
Deleted clientraw and clientraw.txttmp from the Webfiles directory.
Created the clientraw under Advanced Internet File Creation & Upload sat 3:12.
Clientraw recreated in webfiles directory but has same time 2:26:36 as the one I deleted.
Deleted clientraw on host. It was created again but of course with the 2:36 time.
its possible the file on your PC had goten locked and so it could not be rewritten…(the new utf-8 format (for extended character set (wd been using that for some time now)) is not so able to rewite a locked file, i think )
I most likely hadn’t shut down the realtime ftp before I tried deleting it the first time but did shut it down and checked via task manager nothing there. Still can not delete. The last time I deleted it I had to reboot and stop WD before it loaded.
Even if I delete it and doesn’t do any good if it keeps locking up. Everything depends on that file.
Well whatever it was seems to have sorted itself out. My AJAXed page is updating every 17-19 seconds and WDL about every 12 for the past half hour. Hope that hiccup is gone.

Edit: Finished posting this and went back to web page. Not updating again. #-o
EDIT: Finished posting this and went back to web page. NOW updating. Guess I’ll wait it out until tomorrow.
Brian, I had the clientraw.txt stop updating again today. When I tried to create it using the advance internet setup it would not create a new one. I tried to delete it from the webfiles directory but kept getting the windows notice that the file was in use by another program. Rebooted and tried to delete clientraw again but still said it was in use by another program.
I’m using WD in server/client mode and found out that when I shut down the client side it the server would start creating the clientraw. So I’m assuming the client was the ‘other program’ using the clientraw.txt and somehow had it locked. I can’t reproduce it again, just appears to be random. Any ideas/thoughts about what I could try?
that does sound like you are on the correct track
make sure the client version is not set to update the clientraw file in that location…thats one thing to check
not sure why it would lock it out like that…as its only reading…
i dont notice the problem with using the client viewer all the time…
hummm
if you stop the server version running…then see if the modify time/date of the clientraw file changes?
one way around it is i could add option to create a copy of the clientrawfile that you set the client version to use instead
I started the client and the clientraw on the server stopped updating. As soon as I shutdown the client the clientraw was updated. Have tried this several times with the same result. Client running stops the clientraw being created by the server.
I was running two different builds of WD on client/server. Upgraded both to 37b build 7 but still the same.
Didn’t get around to stopping the server until this morning. Kids stayed a LOT longer than I thought they were.
Stopped the server and the updates to the clientraw.txt stopped immediately. As soon as I start the server it is updated as one would expect. Also happened to refresh the directory and saw a clientraw.txttemp for a bit.
Does seem strange that it would somehow lock the server clientraw.txt as I’ve been running server/client mode 24/7 for almost two years now and never had this happen before. No one else is seeing this so it must be something peculiar to my system.
I’m going to download and try the clientriewer and see how that goes as a test.
the new unicode UTF-8 method of file updating is most likely not as robust for file file errors
next time it happens, see if you can delete it ok…
if so, i will get wd to periodicly delete the file…that might help
I’ve not been able to delete the file when it locks up.
Been running ClientViewer for the past two hours and it doesn’t seem to lock the file so far. Didn’t realize how much you’ve changed the client viewer since the last time I look at it. What I liked about the WD client was the graphs but now I see they are in the Client Viewer.
Let me run that for a day or so and I’ll let you know how it’s going before you spend any time on this. Great job on the Client Viewer!!
Hi
server/cleint running server and cleint on same machine, wd will not let you do that can only have one or other
so how are you managing to do it
suggest the multi cast info would be a better option for the cleint rather than reading the cleintraw as you cannot read and write to the same file at the same time
Harold
ok
thats cleared that up
so how often is the server updating the cleintraw file and how often is the cleint reading the cleintraw file on the server
i think you have a timimg issue
Harold
Harold, I too believe it’s timing but not sure if there is a way of changing that. I know if I read the clientraw it is updated every time from the time I stop notepad and immediately open the file again the time is changed by a few seconds.
I’m uploading clientraw.txt every 15 seconds to my web site so I guess it is being read/created/accessed by at least three different processes??
