Clickable USA Map

Proof of concept…clickable USA map for WD stations. Here’s the first “draft”, mouseover California or just click in California to view my website. I will be adding specific links for each station (if there is more than one for each state). I also have a world map that I will be editing in my free time. As I get more familiar with the program I will make my own maps, but these will work for now. My goal is to have all public WD stations on the maps so when weather hits your part of the world we can view your website/webcam/etc.

Do not bookmark the url as it will change. When I have a permanent address for the page I will post a note here. The temp url is: http://weather.dcrooks.net/mapedit/myusmap.html

If you would like to have your station/state/country represented on the map, send me an email with your website url and city/state/country location so I know where to put the hotspot.

I will be working this project in my spare time so don’t expect immediate changes, but I will answer your email to let you know I received your data and will be adding it to the maps.

You may contact me at: [email protected]

Added Jacksonville Florida to the map.

Proof of concept for world map, clickable USA right now. http://weather.dcrooks.net/mapedit/myworldmap.html

I will be adding more as time permits…need to get ready for work now…

Outstanding Dan

Thanks for adding JaxWeather as well…

Wow the things these Forums contributors can come up with… WOW

Thanks,
Bob

good stuff, I like, especialy the world map then go to more detailed map
once you have it more populated, can i put a link to it on the main wd web page?
(and then maybe host it on the wd server, and you can have ftp access to it there, so it does not use up your bandwidth?

I can make my own maps, so drilling down to a country map is easily done. Hence the world map link to the USA map. If things get crowded I can make individual state maps like the Alaska and Hawaii inserts show.

It could easily be hosted on the wd server. Would simplify the domainname as well. If you set it up I will maintain it…just send me the ftp info…

Too many smart people here…

A couple of observations.

I think my preference (not that anyone asked) would be to have the station open in a new window.

What’s this?

I think I can add targets to the code and it should work, I will test it tomorrow, gotta git to work.

Did you get that wmap from visiting the map url I posted?

Yes, tried it a couple of times and it came up each time.

If you say No what happens? Is anybody else seeing the same requester pop up on their system?

Works OK for me & didn’t ask me to load anything

Dan
One of the Metservice guys in NZ has done something similar to your concept
[in his own time & only for NZ]

I tried it from work on numerious machines and did not get any pop-ups or requesters. There’s nothing special about the page so I have no idea why you are getting that wmap thing. I’m stumped…

Ok, I have set California to open in a new window. I will start editing the others to do the same.

I accessed the page using FireFox, IE and Opera and never got prompted by any popup in any of the browsers… Strange.

Tried this AM and it’s the same BUT I think it’s actually Dan’s page that’s doing it, not the map, I went slowly world > US > CA > Dans page and that’s when that window shows (in IE). I’ll see what happens at work…

It is Dan’s page as it appears to be a codec for viewing his "src =“videolasthour.wmv”

It appears that “WMV-9 VCM RTW” is the Windows Media 9 codecs…

-Bob

Niko,

Do you get the same popup when you access this page?

Good detective work Bob. On this machine your link fires up windows media player, I can see your roof vent rotating, and I don’t get the popup on Dan’s page, so I guess it’s just never been used on the other one

Well good to know what was causing just for the sake of knowing

Last night even that roof vent wasn’t spinning, not a breath of a breeze from about 8:00 Pm until 10:00 AM this morning no clouds and still as can be… can’t remember when it was that still last…
