Avoiding these uploads [RESOLVED]

Hello,

Although I believe I have reviewed every conceivable setting within WD, I cannot avoid the daily upload of the highlighted files to the server.

As I don’t incorporate these files into my site, it doesn’t make sense to waste the bandwidth.

Thanks,

Within WD click on “control panel” at the top of the screen and choose “internet file creation and uploads”. You’ll find you can turn on/off creation and/or uploading for most if not all of those files. Note you’ll need to have the main internet and override buttons turned on and you’ll need to set up the ftp host settings there as well.

Thanks Jim but, been there.

Go to your server control panel and change the file access permissions from 0644 to 0444.
Works a treat for me.

How does that solve the problem?

Because the WD FTP programme detects that the file is not write-accessible and skips it.

I suppose that’s true, but wd has still wasted resource creating the files, and (some) bandwidth and time in attempting to save them on the server. I don’t think that’s quite what the orginal poster had in mind.

Looking at those files in the list I see that on my site they are uploaded once per day at 23:11 hours, so not a huge bandwidth problem and some of those listed I do use but not all. I cant see any options to allow/disallow those files, at least I’ve not found hem yet #-o

I do feel that, ideally, we should be able to set whether or not to create and upload any/every file which WD is capable of building.

untick
upload av/ext
in the upload times in the ftp/internet setup
and make sure the switchs are not on to upload in the view, av/ext, uploads tab

I agree about the waste of WD resource, but in terms of data transfer the saving is massive (relative to the original, admittedly small amount).

True, and it certainly does “avoid the upload” as requested by the thread subject

…but wouldn’t this prohibit the upload of the climatedataout.html file?

yes
as that is one of the files you highlighted in your first post
?

Perhaps those three files which appear to be highlighted are actually plain white background, but all of the others (the majority of those listed) are not required and are a darker colour. Yes, those three left white are desirable files for current daily tabled data.

the highlighted files must be the darker background ones in that list then?
then just have unticked to do the av/ext upload, in the upload times, in the ftp/internet setup

Just one question Brian, why is the dailydatalog.txt uploaded? It is being uploaded on my system as well and I cant see any reason for it being on my website, it’s not used in the ave/extremes as far as I can see or anywhere else that I can find.

Stuart

To clarify, the files in question are the MTD, week, yesterday, 72 and 48 hr graph files, the wind graphic files and the weekrep.htm file.

Thanks Brian…I’ll give this a try.

dailydatalog.txt is being uploaded so that your data can easily be added to
http://www.iiccp.co.uk/

who else wants it optional for that to be uploaded

Ah I missed that one and yes I do the i-ICCP thing #-o #-o , so long since I set this stuff up I forgot what it’s for. I think it would be good if it was optional to do the upload, I dont see that it is needed unless you do the i-ICCP thing as long as it indicates what it is used for.
