Yesterday Rainfall

Hi Folks,
I keep getting the last rain fall as Yesterday Rainfall.

If I go to Offsets and make Yesterday 0 it is 0. But an exit and restart returns it to in this case 0.01". It has not rained in 3 days and that was 0.01".

The days since rain is wrong as well 0 days.

The Action, View Modify Adjust Rainfall Totals has all the correct amounts of rain in the blanks.

What is the source of this that I might be able to correct?
Was running 10.35 and just installed the 10.35b with a May 18 date and a 00:00:29 time.

I guess that I should be clearer. 10.35 has done this for a couple of days. 10.35b made no improvement. And 10.34z was the same as well. In fact I am not sure how long it has been going own as things were unattended for 3 weeks of travel.

And 10.35d with a date of 18 May 2006 - 04:50:42 is no different.

Regards,
Tom

hi
make sure after you set the yesterday rain in the offset/rain setup, that you click on yes to save the settings
does it change it on the main screen rain section?
also make sure you do not have read only ticked for the data files in the setup, advanced/misc setup

Hi Brian,
Per you suggestions.
make sure after you set the yesterday rain in the offset/rain setup, that you click on yes to save the settings does it change it on the main screen rain section?

I am doing the SET and YES. And the main screen does properly become 0. But if I exit and restart (or Save and Exit) and restart the main screen and WEB uploads show the 0.01" which was on the 14th.

If I set the no rain days to a number that number is fixed. It doesn’t appear to return to 0 but it remains whateve it was fixed at. SO to, the 18th, it was on 3 where I put it yesterday. I am assuming that count of days rolls at midnight and not at the hour of the rain. That rain happened about 2200 on the 14th. So if WD is going by hours and not midnights maybe 3 is correct.

also make sure you do not have read only ticked for the data files in the setup, advanced/misc setup

The Read Only in unchecked as I understand your guidance. An image of that screen is at
http://www.flyrodders.net/Program%20Backup/readonly.jpg

When I saw the screen at 10:30 PM all was fine yesterday on “Yesterday Rainfall.” The program does a restart at 5:36 AM.

This morning the main screen again was displaying 0.01" for Yesterday Rainfall.
http://www.flyrodders.net/Program%20Backup/wx.gif

And the Consecutive Days without rain had not moved from 4 to 5.
http://www.flyrodders.net/Program%20Backup/trends.gif

And the logfile view shown no rain for 5 days is
http://www.flyrodders.net/Program%20Backup/lastrain.gif

What is the program using for this that I might correct?

The wx.gif will show I am running 10.35d

After the scheduled restart at 5:36 AM today the “Yesterday Rainfall” is again at 0.01" and the 5 consecutive days with no rain didn’t roll to 6 days.

Both manually corrected.

Anyone have a clue as to what files, logs, etc. are used to count the days and “files looked back at?”

5-20-2006
I ran my log files through the WEB bases tester.

Regarding
52006lgsun.txt
52006lg2.txt

These two show an issue with dates. But these files are not used as it appears by my installation. I do not monitor the sun and I do not monitor the soil.

All the others with 52006 as the beginning of the date are OK.

Again this morning the main screen showed 0.01" rain Yesterday.

As before the Monthly and Yearly are unchanged.

The Consecutive Days with No Rain is not increased from the previous manual setting and it is not reset to 0.

The Avg/Ext page, May2006.htm is OK and doesn’t show any rain since May 14.

Hints please?

Running 10.35d

I went into the wdisplay.ini and found a few lines with extra spaces. In fact one line of extra spaces was wrapping three times in the test editor full screen width.

Took those out and no change.

The in wdisplay.ini at Yest Rain I saw the value was 3. Maybe that is 0.3 mm and it is converted to 0.01". Anyway I sat that to 0 and the main screen no longer starts with 0.01" for Yesterday Rain.

But the Consecutive Days with no Rain still do not count. With 0.01" on May 14 today was showing th 9 days I sat in yesterday. So I rolled it to 10 manually today.

This “Consecutive Days with no Rain” is perhaps no value. Who care if it has been 9 days or 10 days! or more!

It sounds like your wdisplay.ini is not updating. Have you verified that you only have one wdisplay.ini file on your system and that it is located in your wdisplay install directory (if running a recent version of WD)?

If all else fails I would try doing a Second Install of WD.

Thanks Norcal Dan for the suggestions.

The only WDISPLAY.INI a search shows that is likely to be applicable is in C:\Program Files\WDisplay and that file has a date and time of the current date and current minute, just now it is 12:51 on today’s date.

All data, today and yesterday, seems to be up to date such as wind gust is correct with the exception of the All Time Records image. One of the “all time records” which is Record High Dew Point show as this month, May 23, 2006.

Other all time records are a mess as may be observed at http://www.flyrodders.net/alltimerecords.gif

There are records there for three years before I even had a weather station. Such as a 100 inch rain in 1 hour May 18, 00.

Any idea if these are numbers that are in WDISPLAY.INI?

Any guidance appreciated.

Tom

Did you find any other wdisplay.ini files on your system other than the one in your wdisplay directory? The only other place you might have one is in the wdisplay/databackup (if you use the built-in WD backup routine) directory.

I think the record data is kept in the wdisplayftp.reg file.

Good Morning Norcal Dan,
I didn’t find any other wdisplay.ini that were being update.

As you note there is one copy in the /Program Files/WDisplay/databackup

And then there are copies in /My Documents/Weather Display/…

I have a once a week to once every 2 week copy of the WDisplay folder there as backup. These are not operating programs and are held there until I move them to a USB Drive. The only wdisplay.ini with a current date is in /Program Files/WDisplay.

When Brian took the wdisplay.ini out of c:\windows I was sure to delete it. Then when it was taken out of Local Folder or whatever I again made sure it was deleted.

If I am one of the few with this issue in might be from:
when the program was moved from C:\wdisplay to C:\program Files\wdisplay I did an uninstall after backup.

Then an Install in 10.35d in C:\program Files\wdisplay
Following the install I copied my backed up wdisplay.ini to C:\program Files\wdisplay. And I clicked the wdisplayftp.reg backup to load that.

This is the first time since Sept. 2005 that the Avg/Ext has correctly updated on the 25th of the month, that is not simply crashed. If 10.35d keeps plugging all month here it will be the version I use until at least Nov. 2006.

I definitely want to be able to see the weather at my home during hurricane evacuations. I live in a small neighborhood on a man made island in Redfish Bay, Texas.

From the main console Setup → Advanced Settings you can check where WD is expecting to find the system files (see attached).

If you continue to experience problems I would try the second install procedure.

FAQ for Second Install of WD.

Well the location is OK, I uploaded an image to http://www.flyrodders.net/weather/setting.jpg

I am going to hold off on any big changes until I see if the program will run through June 1. I do have the WD controlled reboot occur at 05:36 AM daily. As I said, this is the first time since Sept. 05 that I have not had crashes after the 24th of the month when Avg/Ext was enabled.

If, beginning June 2, the consecutive no rain remains stuck, or sooner if we would get a rain, I will use the install in a new place.

Do you know if WD is installed in another location, will both versions run in parallel? In other words - will both the first and 2nd install run at the same time with a single weather station.

Am I correct to assume windows is not case sensitive? I spend to much time on unix boxes and not enough on WinXp.

Ok, I would be interested to know the progress of your system and problem.

WD will run okay as long as you use the 2wd.txt file (put this empty file in the new WD directory before you run WD as it is used to give the wdisplay.ini and wdisplayftp.reg unique entries) in the new location. I know on my setup WD requests the info from the VP2 station so I would not be able to have data being collected by both instances of WD. I would need to set one of them to “listen only” mode, or use tinplates software to manage the serial requests to the console.

Correct Windose is_not cASe sensitive, which has always drove me nutz…

Just started raining, first drops since May 14.

About 3 hours ago I had manually moved Consecutive Days with no rain from 13 to 14.

With this rain the number did reset to 0 days with no rain.

Will see what it does after midnight, that is after the anticipate crash recovery. See Dreaded Month End Crash.
