WXGraphs stop working until WD is rebooted

Hi

I am noticing WXgraphs will stop updating at some point during the day. They will start updating again once I close Weather Display and re-load it. Any ideas are welcome as it is really a strange issue which does not seem to be configuration related.

Thanks

The cause of your problem is the clientraw.txt not being uploaded if the yellow icon in the tray does not show a flashing red arrow then it has stopped
Suggest you check the real time section in WD setup and set it to restart every 5 minutes
This will save having to restart WD it self

mhm. I do not use FTP, WD is running on the web server itself however I will check what’s going on with clientraw.txt next time it happens. You may be right as not only graphs stop working but WD itself does not get the correct latest data either. Seems to be like WD stops getting updated from the station and starts again after closing it and re-opening it.

Arh so WD stops receiving as well that will cause the same issue, so yes you need to find why your weather station is not communicating with WD
As you have a Ecowitt suggest you search the forum to if anyone has had a similar problem

Yeah will first need to see what’s going on exactly when this happens, what stops being updated exactly and then maybe I can get to the WHY. I’ve been rebooting it for stuff to work but never got to diagnose the exact issue as this has been happening for maybe a week. I have a Froggit but I assume its the same as Ecowitt just under a different name in Europe, at least that’s always been my assumption.

You need to ensure you have the latest version of WD. The data for an Ecowitt station is collected by crongw1000.exe and you need the latest version to be reliable.

Thanks for that. I was already on v10.37S but did not have the latest build. I’ve now updated WD. Also connected GW1000 to a stronger WIFI after looking into crongw1000 and seeing it would sometimes get data and sometimes not. Same when pinging it’s IP. This is probably part of the problem and I hope it goes away now  Working in IT, I hate to do 2 changes at a time coz now in my head I keep thinking, if WIFI was the issue, then rebooting WD should not be solving it but it does religiously so if the issue goes away, probably its the upgrade that solves it. GW1000 was moved to a new location couple of days ago and this has been happening for longer. Anyways I’ll keep you posted if this doesnt happen anymore in 3 days

Really glad for this forum coz no where else you find anything on the subject on the whole internet!

After upgrading to latest build I notice “crc sum 243 243” under Data and “crc sum 29 29” under Rain Data in Cron GW1000. Pretty sure this wasn’t there before. The numbers change at data refresh. Is this normal? worrying? I’m used to associated CRC with an error

CRC (checksums) are a way to detect errors in data streams so their existence/display doesn’t mean you’ve got an error.

As Chris says that’s nothing to worry about. You should see the data being received in the data panel of the window. The raw data panel is just that the raw data, the data panel shows the collected data from the gateway and the rain panel you don’t worry about unless you have the WS90 (Wittboy) it does sometimes show rain data though .

I assume Froggit gateways should work with the WSView Plus app on you phone, try that it’s available for both Android and IPhone. This allows you to view your data as long as you are connected to your local lan/wi-fi.

Stuart

Thank you very much. Ive been using WD for 10+years and theres always something new to learn  I have WSview and its a pity you can’t use it over the internet :frowning:

The Ecowitt app allows you to view your data if you upload to their cloud.

Stuart

WSView Plus. When not on your home network, you can watch data on both WU and Ecowitt from same app

My WSView plus only works on local lan.

Stuart

When not on LAN it should show you WU and Ecowitt pages but yes when not on LAN, Ecowitt has a better interface anyways.

No it doesn’t.

Stuart

WSView Plus screenshots while not on LAN.

Well my apologies it does indeed show Ecowitt dashboard, WU is no good for me since I do not upload there, never have and never will #-o I only use Ecowitt as it is currently the only way to get missed data if PC fails. If there was local backup I would not even use that.

Stuart

Graphs kept updating fine for the past 24 hours which is an improvement and hopefully that problem is resolved.

As for backing up data, there are options. Syncing the folder with OneDrive is one of them. Personally I use “Free File Sync” running in the background to keep 2 drives mirrored by copying or deleting any files on Drive 2 to keep it in sync with Drive 1. Every now and then I also ZIP the folders and put them in an external drive just in case my whole PC blows off!

By local back up I meant some kind of thing like a Davis station datalogger in or attached directly to the station. I used to have a VP1 for 15 years till it failed and cost prevented its replacement.
