I know this is the subject of other threads, but they were old and the system suggested I start a new thread - so I have (was that the right thing to do?)
Anyway…
I just want to confirm the correct use of the Data Logger option (WS3600 History Settings) when using the WS3600 with HeavyWeather - should it be on or off ? Is it only for use when using fetch3600 instead of HeavyWeather ? (It seems to extract history OK with this option turned-off.)
OMG I didn’t know you were running Vista. There are lots of threads in the forum about WD and Vista. Try doing some searches as they might help you out. Some people are having great success with WD and Vista, some are not so fortunate. One person in particular (don’t remember his handle) finally threw in the towel and went back to XP. I’m pretty sure that Brian will chime in here soon as he has a Vista setup that is working well. Good luck.
if using wd with the 3600 station via the history.dat file, then it will try and catch up on missing data by default (i.e data logger switch does not need to be on)
note that you then need to run heavy weather first at windows start up and let it update itself with the missing data when the pc was not running and then start up WD
also use the latest version of WD as I have improved alot the 3600 history catch up at start up when using the history.dat file
Thanks Brian. With reference to your recent changes, when I re-installed to c:\wdisplay the other night, I upgraded to 10.37f Build 13. The “3600 Heavy Weather History Extraction” window seemed to pop-up briefly every minute (even though the data logger was off). Since I was having other problem (web files not uploading), I reverted to Build 00 - and the window does not pop-up.
Is this the expected behaviour for the latest build ?
This problem has something to do with time difference, the pc has a different time then the weatherstation.
Try to sync. them.
Make sure you have set the comport to the needed speed and run fetch360 in windowsxp serv.pack 2 compatibility and run the program fetch360 in “run as administrator”.
Thanks for your reply Ronald, but I think my problem is a little more complex than that. I did get fetch3600 to work (for a while) by turning-on either its level 4 or level 5 diagnostic messages. Any less diagnostic messaging and it doesn’t work. I thought I had cracked-it and left it running with the level 4 diagnostics on - but then it stopped working again. I immediately switched back to HeavyWeather as the “front-end”, and have yet to get back to the problem.
The other problem I have with the recommendation to “run as administrator” is that (with Vista’s User Account Control turned-on), you get a pop-up message from Vista every minute asking if it is OK for fetch3600 to run. Unfortunately, even if you say yes each time, it retrieves no data. It also doesn’t work with UAC turned-off and “run as administrator”.
I believe the problem has to do with the rough-and-ready mechanism that fetch3600 uses to time 1 millisecond. For some reason it is not working on my PC. I don’t think it is wholly to do with Vista because others report they have it working with Vista. Maybe it is the dual-core architecture ? - I don’t know.
thats a big and vital clue
I would say that anyone with a dual core cpu will have problems running the fetch program (vista or not), because as you have hinted, due to timing/sycing problems
I think someone like Yves might be able to come up with a new program to replace fetch3600
I have a dualcore processor.
On my pc heavyweather didn’t work,i contacted lacrosse for this problem.
The said that the program was not compatible with vista .
