Last week I purchased LaCrosse WS2300-11 weather station and it works well. But I have problems with heavy weather 2.0 release software. I installed Heavy weather and Heavy weather review programs on my PC. My computer is a laptop Fujitsu Siemens using Windows XP. The cable from the station is RS/USB adapted cable. The problem is that there 's any data from weather station on display, just ‘passive’ heavy weather window.
What I have done so far…:
At first I installed software from CD (Heavy weather and Heavy weather review). After that I saw a passive heavy weather window with no data. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled heavy weather and heavy weather review programs. This time I downloaded them from here: Untitled Document
I have checked that ports between station and computer are same. I have tried ports 1-4.
Please, could someone help me about this problem? Thank you…
By the way, weather is turning colder here after a bit milder weekend. Partially cloudy, temp -12 degree Celsius = 10.4 degree Fahrenheit
Obviously we all hope that you will become a WeatherDisplay user soon, instead of using Heavy Weather. However, if the data is not getting through to your installed programme it is probably just a comm port recognition error. To find the port go: “My Computer/(Rightclick)Properties/Hardware/Device manager/Ports” and you should be able to check which comm port is in use for the serial/(usb) converter. Then just make sure that your prog is indeed connected the the correct comm port.
Mind you having said that, why don’t you give Weatherdisplay a go. You will enjoy setting it up and getting all the results in a far better fashion!!! 8) 8)
I have checked the that the prog is connected to the correct port.
The shop where I purchased the station asked me send it the back there. They’ll check the port of station and the cable. So, I’ll be waiting for their reply and if it doesn’t work then, I’ll consider to purchase Weatherdisplay. There seemed to be 30 days trial version…
I just thought that Heavy Weather is the only one program for WS 2300 (included) :o . I tried to find the solution for my problem by google and I found myself on these site .
OK. Understood. Just to confirm, have you got the serial/usb converter, “driver” installed as I’m presuming that is what you are using to connect the station to your PC? Also, I’m presuming that you are using your station on wireless mode. My WS2300 console has 2 identical sockets underneath; make sure that the PC lead is connected to the correct socket!!
I have a WS2300 as well as Davis Kit and I am finding the WS2300 to be really excellent with the WeatherDisplay software as opposed to Heavy Weather. Yes, you can download the full version of WeatherDisplay ( Weather Display - the Weather Station software ) and use it “On-Trial” free for 30 days. It would be a good idea to download WeatherDisplay and install it and see if you can get connectivity with your ws2300. Note: DO NOT RUN Heavy Weather at the same time.
Best of luck
The moderator will probably move us off this thread soon to…???
There were installation disk with the serial/USB adapter cable. I installed it. I’m using my station with wire connection, because the station supplies power for the temperature unit and I’m sure the wires are in correct sockets.
Perhaps, I have done something wrong with installation…? Maybe the dealer can find something. Just wait and see. Thank you anyway, I’ll be back when I get new information.
OK. Yes it is better to run the installation fully wired, as the data rates will be better too. I’m sure that you will have PC connectivity soon. This forum is always busy and the support that you can get in setting up with WeatherDisplay etc is unbeatable.
does thaat usb to serial show up under device manager, ports?
windows should then assign a com port number to that, which you then set the software to use
but the la crosse stations if used with a USB to serial adaptor, it needs to be a good quality usb to serial adaptor, otherwise you will have problems
At first as I run the driver disk the com port was nr. 10. I changed it to number 1 and set also port number to 1 in HeavyWeather prog. Then I tried different ports. In HW, there’s options 1…4. I think this is OK. I can’t say anything about the quality, anyway the cable adaptor and station with its cable are now at the dealer.
Experienced the same problem lots of times. I have installed a “Serial Port Monitor” to check if there is even traffice from the station to the PC. Often it is the connectivity from the plug into the station - and mostly I can fix it my moving the cord/plug “around”. Lately, I
the 2310 type station uses some non standard communications and so you need a good quality USB to serial convertor (i.e certain brands based on certain type chips do work Ok)
or get a PCI serial card
I am new here, I just bought a WS2300 yesterday and I tried to connect to trough the internet without using a noisy PC based server. I succeed in a couple of hours, finding the trick. ( RS232 to Ethernet adapter )
There is a realy big mess around USB - Serial adapter with WS230X.
The trick is that the WS230X draw power from the com port of the PC.
When you start the heavyweather software, it set the DTR to low ( - volt) and the RTS to high ( + volt ).
Many USB adapter won’t do this, you can check with a voltmeter in the DB9 connector between pin 4 and pin 7.
I have a ws2308 and my laptop has no serial port. Brian, will I need to get a $70 adapter from Harvey Normans or could I get away with one of the $20 adapters from trade me, which look like the same ones sold by scientific sales in NZ.
Why don’t they use a usb connection instead of serial, as from what I have seen not many laptops have a serial port. They have a card in the box that says they will send you an adapter if you need one but Im in New Zealand and I don’t think that offer will extend to New Zealand.
Victor is correct, the 2310 only will “wake up” with the correct DTR signals
and not all USB to serial adaptors do that correctly
the latest weather stations now do I use USB instead, e.g the Irox station and the wmr100/200
(nice stations)
