Posting on behalf of my father who has a WMR968. They are currently experiencing the cold and snow up in the London, Ontario area and during the overnight period last night, the Anemometer stopped reporting wind speed (it’s still updating wind direction).
He went out this morning and looked and the wind speed cups are still spinning like crazy (they are experiencing 20-30kph winds currently).
Anyone experienced this before? I realize that it’s just a reed switch that records windspeed so either the magnet came flying out of the cup assembly or the electronics have failed. Batteries are all showing 100% on Weather Display.
Heavy moisture and below freezing temperatures result in no wind data from my WMR968 . When the sun warms up the Anemometer I start receiving wind data again. :?
My LaCrosse stops transmitting wireless data when it gets too cold. The wired mode still works fine when this happens, so it is just the transmitter portion that is affected by the cold. Doesn’t your system have a separate transmitter for each module? Perhaps the anemometer transmitter is cold sensitive. It could also be the batteries that are cold sensitive.
There is a separate transmitter for Temp/Hum, Rain Gauge and Wind Speed/Dir. The interesting thing is that the Wind Direction was still updating but speed wasn’t being sent. This leads me to think the transmitter was still working fine.
That could be… Has anyone noticed that in the lack of wind or a slight breeze, the wind speed cups tend to be ‘drawn’ towards the support arm (magnetically)… Can someone verify if the support arm is aluminum or steel? It would seem that this affects the ability to detect low speed winds since I always notice in light winds (<3 mph), the cups will almost oscillate about the same point towards the arm (where the magnet is located in the cup assembly center).
maybe you have set the cups on the spindle in a position where the magnet is not activating the reed switch
try pushing the cups down the spindle further (or lifthing them up the spindle a bit) (first un tighten the set screw (allen key needed))
Hello. I found this site while searching the web for the same problem w/ the WMR968.
I have a WMR968 set up that sends 0.0 for the speed most of the time… It will sometimes work for a couple of hours, but will then stop and read 0.0 and not return for several more hours or more (not “—”, and the wind is clearly 10-15 mph and the “cups” are spinning quickly). The wind direction reads correctly. The temperature and dew point read correctly, but I don’t think the barometric pressure is reading correctly either (it’s reading 1014 for the past few days with no change whatsoever, even through rain squalls). By far, my most pressing issue is with the wind speed; I can live without barometer for now.
The anemometer is mounted on the roof of a 30+ foot building, so unfortunately, it’s not very convenient to get to - which is hampering my troubleshooting. I am looking for suggestions or ways to troubleshoot from the console, if possible. I realize that it’s virtually inevitable that I go back onto the roof (at which time, I’ll likely replace the WMR968 with something better).
I’ve tried:
Replacing batteries in console.
Resetting console (with reset button inside battery compartment)
Unplugging console, removing batteries, etc.
Pressing and holding down the CHANNEL button (on touchscreen)
I don’t suspect radio interference or distance from transmitters being a problem, since the direction is working fine. It has died twice right in the middly of a sunny day, so it’s not for lack of solar power. And it doesn’t return to normal at sunset, so I don’t think it’s overheating (ambient temp is less than 80*).
Is there anything else I can try from the console end?
This was the most intriguing suggestion I’ve found, but as I’ve said it does work sporadically:
