Wmr200 anenometer

Hi,

Just wondering what lifespan other wmr 200 owners have achieved from their anemometer. The wind vane appears to be working fine, but very suddenly the anemometer cups have almost stopped spinning and move quite jerkily only when stronger wind gusts occur. I can’t get up onto the roof for mother few days but sounds to me like the bearing has worn.

The unit is only about two years old and is situated in a reasonably sheltered city location where strong winds are the exception rather than the norm!

My one lasted 2 1/2 years the bearing seems to be completely worn away. It was taking a good strong wind to get it going although oddly it seemed to be still reasonably accurate when it did get going. Anything under about 10 mph was showing 0

With its predecessor, the 968, I was getting anywhere between a month and 18 months for the anemometer, before the bearings gave out. With the 968, you can replace the bearings quite easily, I am not sure if you can do the same with your model.

Best wishes

Mike

Hey Paul.

My WMR anemometer is from 04/09 and still doing great.

When wind is more than 0,1 m/s it moves. And no problems whatsoever.

It runs on solar power. I put 2500mA rechargeable AA batteries in the sensor, and I have not touched it for 18 months.

There was something on this forum howto do this, but do a search.

My WMR800 wore out it’s anemometer bearings after 5 months. Admittedly, it’s in a coastal environment with constant moderate to strong winds but that still seems to be a pretty short life. The inside of the unit was clean and dry with no signs of moisture or salt spray, just a bit dry dust from the worn out bearings. Has anyone successfully replaced the bearings in a WMR800?
