WLL and No Internet

To Brian and all,

First of all ever since i went to WLL all my issues over the prior year or so have gone away. WD behaves flawlessly!!!

So yesterday internet went out in my entire area… My WiFi router was up and I thought would be
communicating with WD. WD was very sporadicly showing record count increase. Spinning beachball came up alot. I finally
just exited WD and waited several hours for internet to come back up.

Stupid question: Is WD getting the data from my WLL box which is wireless and thus not impacted by internet outage OR is it pulling
from Davis, which would explain my issue.

Thanks

both
(UDP but also gets data from the davis servers)

Thanks… what I suspected… but with power on, once internet came up all data came back

what I probably need to do is set the time out to much smaller so it does not hang waiting for an internet connection

Hey Brian… so you haven;t heard from me in ages. Because WLL works so amazing with WD - thanks for all your help on that.

Regarding this thread, when internet is down WD can’t get data from WLL since (from what I gather) WD is getting from Davis cloud and not the WLL box itself - or do I have that wrong

You mentioned a timeout so it could get from WLL vs. Davis. Since this post was from April, thought I would check in to see if any issues.

This weekend we are expecting ice/snow which means internet could go down alot. Just checking in

Thanks as always and hope you are doing well. Happy New Year btw

You should be able to get data direct from the WLL box as well as downloading what the WLL box has uploaded to the cloud (although I don’t know if the Mac version of WD does this differently).

With your current config ,the WLL box will buffer data, so if you lose internet connection it will keep data to be uploaded once the connection comes back (assuming that it’s not weeks of an outage!) So once WLL has uploaded to the cloud I’d assume that WD will download the backlog. So your records should be complete, but you won’t have live data during the connection outage.

Thanks based on what happened last time that is what happened. Live data was really wonky (hit or miss). So I guess moving forward if the internet goes out AND i’m there, then to shut down WD and let it catch up later.

Only reason I revisited this was brians comment about changing the time out to be smaller as to not wait for internet connection

Both Mac and Windows get WLL data direct from the WLL.
No internet connection required.

So this was my original post:

Maybe that issue was a fluke then. Easy to simulate - unplug modem but leave wifi router up

I agree with you though, the WLL connection to WD is the most stable I have ever had.
Goodbye serial adapter!

AMEN… I swear brian was getting tired of me with all the issues I had. I mean HUGE.

Went to WLL and 99% of issues solved. LOVE it. I pay for the 5 minute interval. Think the free 15 is no way near enough.

Due to issues in the past with bad power here, I have a UPS on my mac. I also have a smaller separate one for router and modem. So if the power goes out its now not that long. For those
times I hope to keep computer and my web page up… Make sense

It’s more correct to say that they ‘can’ get data direct from WLL. You can configure WD to let your WLL box upload to Davis and then download your data from the cloud rather than directly download it from the WLL box. One example of why you might do this is if your WLL box and WD are on different networks and you can’t directly access the WLL box from your WD device.
