Hello everyone,
I have been noticing that whenever there is a “sudden burst” of a high wind gust, my WD wind speed and direction readings freeze for anywhere between 5 to 15 minutes before then going back to real-time readings.
Not sure of the frequency of this issue, but it does seem like it happens on exceptionally windy days and usually right after a relatively calm period between the gusts.
Not sure if this is causing the issue, but I saw on a previous post where this may be due by a setting in WD set-up called “limits”?
Not sure if a default setting is causing the issue, but did see a couple of settings about wind speed and direction ignore? Not sure exactly what that means or how that works.
Would appreciate any guidance on how that works.
Thanks!
You don’t mention the make & model of station you have so some of these may be different in your setup as I’m using a Davis VP2.
Go to Control Panel > Offsets & Initial Rain > Limits > The default Max windspeed is 150 knots.
Now look in the area marked “Data Spike Check Setup For Graph/Log Data”
In this area I have the Windspeed spike ignore value set to 30, the same for the Gustspeed, and the Timeout is set to 70 seconds.
Check your own settings and see if there’s anything vastly different to mine which could be causing the freezing.
I take it the station itself continues with normal readings when WD is frozen?
My station is Davis Vantage Pro 2
Checked the Limits, Windspeed spike is set to 30 and Gust speed is set to 40
Timeout is at 70 seconds.
The default Max Windspeed is 300 kts.
Readings on console are okay and not affected when the freeze up occurs.
Only on WD
