I need to replace the broken vane (fin) at the end of my direction indicator.
Question is - should the whole pointer/vane be balanced, or should the tip, or the fin, be heavier?
Or does it not matter provided the difference is not too much?
I would have thought that the whole vane should be balanced. It has to rotate on a central bearing so if it’s not in balance it’s going to place extra stress on the bearing potentially making it wear out faster.
That’s a good point that I hadn’t considered. I’ll add some weight to the pointy end as the replacement fin is thicker/heavier than the original.
Thanks
