Hello,
I am new to the weather station business and I am worried about my Wind Direction. It fluctuates quite a lot. I have set up my Wind Direction Sensor so that North, points towards well… North.
But on comparing different weather stations around me using wow.metoffice.gov.uk, My weather station is recording directions in different directions than the trend that I am seeing on different weather stations.
This is my stats graph including wind direction (notice the fluctuation):

How do you properly install a wind direction sensor?
What is the installation like for your anemometer? If it is in a shattered location, or is close to obstructions then it will suffer from turbulence and can produce a similar trend as your is showing. Mine is about 3 m above the roof line and does show signs of turbulence at very low wind speeds.

All of my sensors are at least 8m away from heated buildings and significant obstructions. There are trees right next to it, but since I have placed it as high as possible, only small branches are nearby (1-3m). It is not above roof line but it is, as I say, at least 8 or 9 metres away from any heated buildings. My sensors are located at the end of a string of buildings, so only other buildings are to the right of the sensors, to the left is some trees.
If you go to http://wow.metoffice.gov.uk and search location GL4 and select Wind Direction and Speed, sometimes my weather station (named GL4 Weather) shows it as a completely different direction to the ones nearby.
Today I got a completely different graph.

So which graph is correct? The one in my first post or the one above.
