I have been trying to get WD to run on ElCap for some time now.
Brian connected in and tried to do his magic, but no luck
He determined the USB-Serial driver for ElCap is causing the issue.
Here is what I have tried so far
Startech ICUSB232V2 - no luck
Triplite U209-000-R
I tried for both above the Prolific 1.1.6 and latest SClabs driver - again no luck
Any thoughts would be most appreciated.
Btw I do have my old TripLite us-19h driver but stopped using it. For whatever reason (even unknown to trip lite) it was generating TONS of entries in my log file I mean TONS. They couldn’t resolve it so that is when they sent me the U209 which has been working fine up until Yosemite
Also I have two macs in my possession:
OLDER model Mac which I updated to ElCap for testing purposes
NEWW model Mac which is what runs WD and all my day to day stuff
Wow. After some Windows issues on Thursday I decided to move my setup over to a Mac Mini running El Capitan. Got everything moved over, started up the program, selected the serial port and nothing.
The only way I can get any data is to start the Setup Wizard which will give me a few received packets and then nothing.
Did some searching, found your thread, checked my adapter and uttered a few expletives.
I’ve got the same issue. Looks like I’ll be trying to find another adapter unless somebody can figure this one out.
@sdjones
when you say nothing, do you mean you get a spinning beach ball?
there is another thread started by DeputyDawg where I have suggested to use a usb data logger with the mac instead of a serial data logger
and then you use the Davis Silicon labs driver for the Mac
I ordered a uSB logger. Was supposed to have been here Friday. But with the storms in the northeast it’s delayed till Monday. I won’t be able to do try it out till next weekend.
No spinning beach ball. The port opens but shows no packets received. If I go into the settings, every so often I will get a packet or two and the values seem correct.
If I use the screen command in a terminal window, I do see repetitive data coming from the port so the computer is seeing the weather station.
I should add, this id’s an Ultimeter 2100 I’m playing with.
I was wondering if it’s a communications port setting? I know when I tried the Mac version many years ago, you sent me several debug versions to play with.
if you could post a screen shot of how you have it setup on the Mac (for the ultimeter setup)
I do have a ultimeter console here now so I can do some testing
Next problem is how to release the comm port when the program exits?
I’ve tried using the Exit menu item and I’ve tried going into the Control Panel and closing the comm port but nothing works. The comm port stays open and locked.
If you try to restart the program, you get the spinning beach ball.
The only way to release the comm port is to reboot the computer.
