Improvement for logging from a Ws2010 type station. <— mean?
That you get less error reports from the sensors using your pc-interface?
New to the forum, but have been using WD for several months. I have a WS-2210 wireless. Same model as you. I was having difficulity with the daily NOAA reports. I was missing days, had duplicated days, etc. I know Brian has been working on fix. But as far as the data coming off the PC interface being wrong I don’t know if this will fix this or if that is part of the issue. As far as I can tell I am recording consistent good data. All my graphs look normal etc. I haven’t tried 10.10g. to see if that fixs the NOAA reports.
It’s funny, system (weather station and PC interface) was working fine for some time now…then all of the sudden a couple of sensors started to get errors. I reset the system a few times (my stress level starts to rise, when this happens)…no fix.
I moved the PC interface to another location…about 3 feet from where it had been sitting…and now it picks them all up.
Its strange how these wireless systems can work fine for so long…then all the sudden they get outta wack or something.
I find the weather data my system provides interesting and kinda cool to watch day to day…but it gets annoying having to babysitting the thing.
I think im going to look into getting the repeater.

The problem of intermittant reading can actually be caused by interference of the radio transmission from the measurement device to the receiver / interface. This is a common problem which can be resolved by relocating the receiver unit or as I did by buying the wireless repeater that LaCrosse has available. The Lacrosse 2010 system transmits at 433MHz whuch is a ISM frequency (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) and is a license free band. This means that is also without regulation and there may be other 433MHz equipment in use by neighbors or local factory.
Also, the transmitters and receivers that LaCrosse provides are probably simple devices. This means they may not discriminate other frequencies well or be susceptible to off frequency interference (other local radio transmissions on a different frequency).
This means you will have to ensure you have an almost direct line of sight between the transmitter and receiver and try by trial and error to establish the best position for the equipment. (not always an easy task)
Like the weather, radio waves are not an exact science. They can also be affected by the weather!!!
A search on all forums searching for Interference may give you some ideas.
And
From http://weather-watch.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2711
the indoor sensor is the one in the console, i.e the barometer and indoor temperature/humidity... maybe try moving the ws2010 data logger as far away from the PC as you can. The error just means there has been some missed data packts... And Brian is correct on this one. I bought a 15' serial cable extension and mounted the sensor away and above the level of my computer and electronics (including a wireless lan). There are many threads about this, try searching the group for ‘LaCrosse’ and/or ‘flat lining’.
yes, the noaa reports from the 2010 station have been upset a bit becuase of the time roll over for the new day (i.e midnight) is not happening very cleanly with the new time of logging from the ws2010 type station (before it was the same time for 3 minutes in a row, now i am trying to make it more accurate time log wise)
but converting the graph file to log file (via action, convert wd log files to grpahs, but tick convert graph files to log files then select the appropriate month (e.g month42004.inf) then click on convert should fix up the reports (i told ryan to do that, it worked for me with his data file)
is 10.10g bettwer?
(it wont be retrospective)
I have found myself getting frustrated with the Lacrosse wireless setup. I have too gone for periods of time with no data, but I am on one of those periods of good data. I hate when it doesn’t work right and I think if it keeps happening to I would just start over and spend the money to by a Davis or something comparable. I did do one suggestion that Brian has made and that was to by an RF Choke and placed it on the Data logger along with a six foot extension. I believe since then I really have had good success for the past 3 months. As far as the data log problems with the Noaa reports I have been just editing the logs in Wordpad. It is nice because you basically can correct anything in the logs. I haven’t tried the graph conversions yet but I might sometime.
the new graphs updating does a bit more time
but, i have improved that in the latest version
i.e, the la crossse data system is very time dependent, and so if WD is doing to much of other stuff, then maybe it will not work cleanly as well with the data logger as it should, which then makes the data logger miss new data (it cant do both at the same time)
so, it might be the new graphing system to blame
but the latest version should be better hopefully
The same old problem is still occuring on 10.10g. I have two date lines in the NOAA fields for the 3rd of April. If I look at the data now there is data that is going back and forth between the 3rd and 4th. So it really dosen’t look good. I tried the suggestion of converting the graph files just like Brian suggested and that made the data even worse. I have several lines for each day now. I don’t now what to do now, but the problem is still there.
hi
zip and email me your data files
month32004.inf
and
month42004.inf
and i will try the convert graph to log here
if it works ok, i will zip and email you back the fixed up log files
(if my slow internet/email connection can handle it (I am getting broadband satellite next month))
Brian-
I know it would take some time for you to do that on the logs, so I don’t think I will email you those unless you need them for testing. Actually I have rebuilt the March log by hand and it looks good except I can’t get data to show up for the 31 of March. On April I have corrected day one and two. Day 3 and 4 are really messed up and I hope tomorrow will look better. I think you are still working on a fix because that is what I really need. I have got good at editing the logs so that isn’t the issue. Also the previous day extremes verse the daily extremes isn’t working correctly.
That will be great when you get broadband internet.
Thanks!
the yesterday extreme/today extremes:
that will be related to the midnight time roll over as well…i,.e the routine will be gettign done 2x
Its my day to take the kids to playcenter today
so i am gone now for the next 4 hours
I will have another look at this whole thing when i get back
hi
i have run a test overnight
and it works much better
after i have made some changes/fixes
in a new full version 10.10i or zip download, ready now
and let me know how you go
I tried it with the latest version. Still got the same problem. Maybe not as much data correction though. I had two 23 hr 59 min entries around midnight and after the last 23 59 it went to 00 01 so it didn’t get the date rollover. It was about 6 lines down that the 00 00 came up and its like the data starts over. I edited the log and only one line shows up for that day on the NOAA report now.
Still no change from the 6th to the 7th. I will email the data around the midnight change.
Brian-
Still getting a double entry on the NOAA report. I am running 10.10n. Last time I corrected I only had one 59 minute on the 23rd hour and I had two 00 minutes. So it was really easy to correct.
Ryan
Hi
OK, I am heading in the right direciton then, so thats good!
I have been ticking of lots of things lately, and I will get back onto this one soon
Sounds good, I will patiently wait for a fix.
Ryan
Ryan,
I also have had a lot of trouble with the NOAA reports as well as the roll over from day to day with the 2010-13 Data-logger. I have setup many downloads and uploads to a web server for data on a regular basis. Just make sure that you machine is not too busy between 11:50PM and 12:15AM. I stopped all Internet and File Creation uploads between 11:50PM and 12:15AM, as well as WAP, WEB and FTP downloads during those times. I have also bought the 2010-12 repeater and mounted that about at the halfway distance between my Data-logger and the farthest sensor from my home. I am running WD ver. 10.10r now and things seem to be a lot better now than they’ve been for some time. My system is a dedicated always on Windows server so I am also trying the track of leaving the application not-minimized as well as raising its process priority to “high” from “normal” I will see if this helps even more over the next few days.
Good luck,
Afer looking at my problem with the double hour lines and double entries in the noaa reports I re-examend my own logfile, and found that I was getting many more doubled and out of order minutes in my logs. check this section from 12:39 to 1:03 this afternoon. Could this have something to do with the fact that WD askes for data every 300 seconds and sometimes it gets two slugs of data instead of one. I don’t know just a suggestion.
