Welcome Banner on Home page

I’ve turned a new feature on - the Welcome Banner. It’s on the forum Home page which is where you will normally arrive when you login. It doesn’t appear on category pages which have their own banners.

I’m not sure if it’s useful. On the one hand it gives a very obvious prompt to search for information and search isn’t always people’s first thought. On the other hand it takes up some space on the home page.

Please let me know what you think about this feature.

I have to say I don’t think it enhances the user experience. . . :-1:

I was surprised to see this when I checked in today. I also feel it is rather OTT and although it’s OK space wise on my large desktop display I think on a tablet or phone it would be rather annoying. So on balance my view is it is not a valuable addition.

Seems to have disappeared. . .

It has. The only comments about it were negative.

I use a couple of other forums which run Discourse and neither appear to use this. I think perhaps it might be worthwhile if it could be tailored so that it only appeared for users who have not visited for some considerable time so those of us who visit regularly did not see it.

It’s a brand new feature just added in the latest release so it’s not surprising that it’s not seen elsewhere (yet). It has no configuration, other than on/off.

It’s a shame there is no configuration.
