Which outdoor/wireless webcams are compatible with WD? What do you recommand for a simple 5 min picture upload and/or lunger videos? Can some cams be fully operated with WD or only their recorded images/videos?

I have a Foscam V5P and its quite good. Its all done inside WD. I use the web cgi interface to pull pictures every minute and WD makes timestamped pictures every five minutes. The timelapse movie uploads once per hour. You can see my results on my website.

Thank you jaltman for your kind answer. I will try to get that same kind of camera if it works fine with WD. I don’t neccesarely want another software running on my computer 24/7. Is that camera 100% wifi? It is wired? I guess. Where can I find your timelapse? Can you show me?

You can go straight to my movie at https://altlaw.com/saratoga/wxmovie.php. You set it up with a wired connection and then switch it to wifi. I set it up just sitting on my desk to make the wired connection easy. Then mount it. It needs a feed through at the mounting point to bring it power. It powers from a wall wart. If you decide to go this route i can PM you WD’s set up and some configuration commands you send it with a browser.
