This is probably a webcam problem, but I thought i’d ask anyway in case someone knows of a cure…
I’m using WD to capture the image, add the overlay, and ftp it.
Thanks.

really need alot more information
eg at what interval is the file created, etc
(some screen shots would help)
I’m getting new firmware to try that should fix this…
I had the same problem some years ago & found that it was a corrupted jpg in the webfiles folder, I deleted all the videolastday/alldayvideo jpg’s & it fixed it, hope this helps.
teal.
I don’t think its like a frame in a video?
I tried using the winXP camera capture tool over 100 times and had no problems. Maybe 1 in 10 with WD are bad, usually at the bottom. Here’s another bad capture and some screen shots. Thanks…
tick the keep alive setting
that will help
also you could set to save the file more often than every minute
Keep live seems to be helping, i’ve only seen one bad image so far, but the capture has stopped working twice in the last day [not WD, it’s fine]. Restarting WD clears, it up.
try unticking restart regularly now that you have ticked keep alive
I won’t be able to try this until this weekend, but as an FYI, after checking keep live, the capture stops working around 9:30pm everyday…
when you say it stops working, can you give more detailed information?
The setup is at my vacation home, so I only see it on weekends. I need to figure out Remote Desktop I guess. Ftp sends up the summary screen and webcam image every 5 minutes. Once I’m back home I can only see the two images on my website. Since checking keep alive on Sunday, every night around 9:30pm, the image stops updating (it has a time stamp). When I get up in the morning, the webcam says 9:30pm, and the WD summary screen upload is working as normal. I installed a smart plug last weekend that allows me to power down then up the computer, then everything resets and works fine till 9:30p.
I’ve only had the cam a few weeks. At first I had the corrupt images on occasion, and the capture would also stop after a few days randomly, I want to say the WD capture program is still working normal, and Windows loses the camera, but I’m not 100% sure. That’s when I did the Windows XP update trick and upgraded to the latest version of WD.
Is there anything special I should look for Friday night when I get to the computer and uploading has stopped?
setting up remote desktop would certainly help you in finding out if its the actual image file in the WD webfiles folder that is stopping updating or not
Keep live and unchecking restart regularly seems to have fixed those problems. i made those changes and installed logmein on sunday and everything has been running great till now [3-days later]. WD has stopped working and logmein shows the computer off line, so it’s probably a memory leak or something? Again this is a pc at my vacation home that only runs weather display and nothing else, and I can’t see what happened till this weekend, since logmein doesn’t work either.
Is there a way to get WD to restart the computer at 1am or something everyday? I’ve tried using a smart internet plug to power cycle the PC, but that corrupted WD [once in a while] and I had to reinstall it.
Isn’t there a button in WD that says “Only capture video/pictures during the day”?
Maybe that’s why it’s stopping at 9:30?
@scorpionbowl
maybe there was a power cut?
(and if so is WD set to start up on windows start up (does that work OK?)
or maybe windows did an update (what time is the last update? (e.g 3am?))
Correct, but it wasn’t restarting in the morning. That problem is solved now with the above suggestions.
No power outage. WD starts up on power up, and computer starts up after an outage. I usually don’t have any issues with a power outage, recovers fine. I have windows updates shut off.
When I arrived tonight, the computer display looked normal with no warnings, but the mouse and keyboard were locked up and I couldn’t do anything but power cycle. Now everything is good.
I will keep an eye on the memory. It was about 3-days last time when it locked up.
