Webcam Capture Not Working

For some reason my webcam capture is no longer working. I get an error saying “Failed to Start Preview”. Not sure what has changed. I did the Anniversary upgrade to the Windows 10 but am not sure when the capture stopped working. The camera is recognized by WD’s web capture program. The webcam works with other software. I am running the latest version of WD.

Hi
there has been no change to the wdwebcamcapture program for a number of years
so the problem will not be related to the latest version of WD
it might be a problem with the latest windows 10 version
have you tried a reboot of the pc?

Same issue here after Anniversary upgrade to the Windows 10.
Has to be some driver issues with this update.
I manage to get my microsoft lifecam web cams working. but logitech 910 dont work anymore.

I also had this when i was a windows insider running betas of windows.

Thanks all. My webcam is a Logitech C920. It works with other webcam software so I suspect wdwebcamcapture needs some tweaking to work with the latest Windows update and particularly Logitech devices. I have an older Logitech webcam and get the same results. I looked on Logitech’s website and did not find any updated drivers.

Hi.
Most likely somthing to do with the new Windows Camera Frame Server - Windows 10 Service intrudused in latest windows 10 update to version 1607.
You can see it running in task manager as Camera.
See info link:
http://batcmd.com/windows/10/services/frameserver/

I manage to get some camera work, i tryed disable this windows service but it just restart as soon you start the WD webcamcapure software.
Microsoft lifecam studio x5 - works
Microsoft lifecam HD-3000 - dont work at all
logitech c525 - works
logitech 910 - dont work at all

The logitech 910 works on windows 10 if you use windows own camera app or skype.

Tryed also to disable this in windows service, but then no camera shows.
Have also moved to differents usb ports.

From windows camera website info, no drivers at all:
For Windows 8 and later, additional software is not required.

Any soloution on this?
This windows service is comming is here to stay in windows 10 for all the future.

After my Win10 machine upgraded with the anniversary edition I had problems with audio and comm ports. First thing I did was reboot the computer and saw no improvement. What worked for me was to disconnect my devices, making sure I got the ding-dong sound from Win10 that the device was dropped. I then plugged them back in and made sure I got the ding-dong sound that Win10 had picked them up again. I then had to go into my software and re-select the device again. After that all my devices and ports are working normal.

It appeared that Win10 lost track of the devices even though it was showing them in device manager as enabled and working. I did not have to update any drivers, and I didn’t see Win10 update any drivers but I suppose it could have done it without notifying me or showing a pop-up window.

I already tried what you did and still no luck. Like I mentioned earlier the camera works with other software so it is being recognized. Also webcapture works with my laptop’s built in webcam so go figure.

the problem is , I lost the source code to wdwecamcapture.exe with my hard drive crash that I had
so I can not update it
so I would need to re write it
no easy task
and I would need to update to the latest component version (more $ cost to me)
(and check to see if the demo that comes with that works for you guys)
I gather there is no way to stop windows 10 from auto updating to this new version?
(if not then I am going to suffer the same fate with my logitech anyway :frowning: )
but I will ask the author of the component if I just need to update a dll file

actually see if this demo works
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/MainDemo.zip

downloaded and tested.
Sorry Brian, prog find cam but only black screen. same same as wd.

I will contact the author…as that is the latest available version (june this year)

The demo works fine here. I had to hit the start preview button to get it started but it is working with my Logitech C920 camera. Bjorn did you hit the start button? I originally got the black screen until I manually started the preview. The other camera controls appear to be working as well. The demo has a nicer user interface in my opinion.

Yes, start was in use. Also tryed with logitech 525.
Play around more tomorrow. Night.

good that it does work…
I will then need to upgrade the license for the component I use (which had lapsed), and add in the code I lost
( I do have some code snippets to work with)
will cost me 500$ us to upgrade :frowning:

I also tested the demo with my older Logitech Pro 9000 and it worked well.

Tom

i have purchased the updated component
and have made good progress in re writing wdwebcamcapture
(this is the last .exe I need to rewrite after the hard drive crash luckily)
so will have a beta to use tomorrow

Outstanding. I was not expecting something so quick. You must be a magician.

I see that your web cam image is current
http://www.kq5s.com/wd/webcam.php
though?

That image is coming from my Mac running WeatherCat until you get the web capture fixed. Windows WD is still feeding my web page except for the image. In your spare time why don’t you go ahead and add web capture to the Mac version of WD?

Just so you know WD for Mac is working with the beta version for MacOS Sierra 10.12 beta 4.

I do have a simple program to do that for that mac, but it really never did take off
