I think what Brian means is; When you look at the title of the file, you’ll see the time for that file (File date =08/11/07 now date 08/11/07
copying file C:\Program Files\wdisplay\webfiles1955jpgwebcam.jpg).
Is the time on the last copied file near your actual time of day?
what i meant was to actualy view that file and check its a valid image file and its up to date and current for that time , etc
I will take a look at the files when I get home from work. After deleting all webcamimages in the WD file and the allday file, I fired up the 'puter and for about 30 minutes all was fine. At 6:02 am the image froze. I had my wife click on the save button and it started to work again.
Again I will check out the files Windy explained about earlier and post my findings.
Thanks again for all your help.
in the wdwebcamcapture.exe program, tick, use safe file copy, in the file save setup
and also try setting say every 5 seconds to create the file, as a test
Windy, you asked me to check “use safe file copy” in the file save setup of the wdwebcamcapture.exe program. I sorry but I don’t see what you are asking. I have attached a screen shot of my window. Am I missing something?
Web Cam Capture.doc (65.5 KB)
Windy, I checked out the two files and from what I can see they are identical in file name and time stamped image. If the files are saving correctly then both files are correct. If the files are frozen then both files show the same frozen image.
This has to be something in my computer that is making the file freeze. Can I un-install WD and all associated files, do some file maintenance on my hard drive and re-install and re-set up WD. Do you think that would help. (I need to do some maintenance on the hard drive anyway).
you already have the safe mode option ticked
you can see that in the screen shot
when the time stamped image stops updating, is the non time stamped image still up to date or not?
No they are not. The non time stamped images are not updating the image when the file freezes, that includes webcamimage.gif, tempwebcam.jpg and jpgwebcam.jpg which are all in my wdisplay\webfiles
when the image stops updating, if you then delete that image (the non time stamped image) does it then get recreated Ok ?
i do not have this problem myself
No it does not get recreated ok.
I deleted the file webcamimage.gif and it recreated to the same frozen image after about 5 seconds.
Deleted tempwebcam.jpg and it did not recreate at all.
Deleted jpgwebcam.jpg and it did not recreate at all.
I click “SAVE” on the Web Cam Capture app and all was recreated with up to date time stamps on the image. All three files are now recreated every 5 seconds.
Image froze again at 11:23:12 am this morning. I deleted the three non time stamped files. None of the three has been recreated.
I click on the SAVE button on the Web Cam Capture app. and all three files returned and continued to reproduce every 5 seconds or so.
This has got to be a problem with my computer system, if you and the rest of the forum does not have this problem with the webcam files.
Dan,
Have you tried to install a second WD Install, as noted in this FAQ, Installing multiple instances of WD on your computer , and then just set that one for your webcam and see what happens…
-Bob
Nope, good idea. I’ll give it a try now.
Thanks.
so by deleting the frozen file (non time stamped, ie the file the webcam program is updating) its able to be recreated again?
sounds to me like something is locking that file
maybe try turning off virus checkers or similar
No it does not recreate again. Only after I manually check SAVE in the Web Cam Capture app will it recreate again and with the correct time stamp image and continue to recreate every 5 or so seconds until it freezes again.
ok, now, when the picture is frozen, is the actual live image that you can see in the webcam capture program also frozen too?
sounds like it, because by clicking on save, you are resetting the camera most likely
(and then so the option to reset regularly might help)
what type of camera?
check your USB settings are not set to power down etc
I sorry for being a compleat pain in the a**. :?
The actual live image in the webcam capture program is LIVE and you can see the seconds tick by on the clock on the image, even when the image is frozen in the files.
My web cam is the Logitech Pro 5000. And is working properly and not set to power down.
strange
and you say you only have to click on the save button and it starts updating again?
Yes. When the image freezes (which I can see from the file itself) will have the an old image saved in it. So in file 1026jpgwebcam it has an image of 9:48:57 and the live image in the Web Cam Capture app is live, I can see the seconds tick up. I click on SAVE and the image will start by recreating itself with the correct time stamp in the image.
I started my computer this morning and fired up the Web Cam Capture app which started creating images at 9:13:57. I did some other work and left the computer. When I came back the MPEG to video screen was up and not doing anything (see attachment). I don’t know how long it was sitting there, but the web image was frozen at 9:48:57. I hit the SAVE button and it started to recreate it self. The MPEG to video screen still did not do anything.

I’ve come in very late on this thread, but maybe, just maybe…there is a second copy of the webcamcapture being run…
It is my understanding that after WD starts, webcamcature.exe starts automatically (after a variable period of time, mine takes anything from 15sec to 2 mins to start up)…you seem to infer that you “fire up the Webcamcapture application” manually…presumably if that were the case, then WD would still start up it’s own copy…maybe this causes the problem
