As a long term Wd user, I have used the web cam capture facility since it was introduced, however, I have an annoyance that I can never seem to resolve, no matter what i have set/unset. #-o
(As it is a trivial matter rather than data corrupting, I have never bothered asking before, but now is the time !!).
I can set to display my webcam image as the summary image on my main WD display all ok, but what I also want to do is create a time stamped image (every minute). Now I can get WD to do this, however, I always seem to get several images produced at the same time, ie webcamimage.jpg, newwebcamimage.jpg, newwebcamimage1.jpg as well as the time stamped image that I want. I don’t want an animated image…all I want is time stamped images as well as the image for the main WD display screen.
What exactly do I need to set ? (If there is a thread for this please point me to it )
thanks for anticipated ‘help’.
Just to add, I’m only saving these webcam images locally and not sending them to a website

You should only be getting one image named webcamimage.jpg…and possiblly another one named webcameimage.gif
where are these other ones being created at? which folder did you see them in?
do you have a weather website and can you update your profile and a link to your site?..to do this click on “Profile” Tab, once signed into the forums, then go to “profile information” , then at bottom of that screen eneter your website title and URL, then click on save/update. It will add a little globe under your avatar/username, which when clicked on us, will go your your weather site.
what is your purpose of saving an image every 1 minute if you are not using them, or uploading them?
I use these images for personal use…as stated, I am not sending to website…yet.
Hi Brian,
No, I haven’t got the java webcam set up. I have set to create every minute a jpg image called mainwebcam, within webcamcapture.exe, and this image is displayed as I want it on the main WD ‘front end’. To get a timestamped jpg, every minute image, I have set from within the webcam settings page called from control panel/webcam…screen print attached. What I do not want is an animated gif, but it seems the only way i get time stamped images is by selecting to create an animated gif…which is not what i want.
Please advise what I am setting incorrectly or not setting correctly. !!!
I would try and Turn that OFF and just make sure you have set the Webcamcapture settings under File Save set, Turned On, directory set and every minute selected.
The screen you are showing is for other aspects such as the all day web cam image panel…
If I switch evrything off within that screen, I still get nothing. The only time I got anytimestamped images was with the settings in that screen set to ON, along with the animated gif settings. As I say, animated gifs, or gifs is not what I want.
I couldn’t post my webcamcapture settings yesterday, but I have attached them here. To re-iterate…all I want is a timestamped, every minute save of the file mainwebcam.jpg (must be jpg as quality of gif is rubbish), I do not want several intances of gif files called newxxx1, newxxx2, etc. If it can’t be done, then so be it, but I’m sure I have done this in the past. #-o
Ok I did some testing, currently running webcamcapture 6.2 on VISTA and I made sure everything was turned off for the animated file settings and only had the every minute capture turned on from the webcamcapture.exe and it saved a file named 1000jpgwebcam.jpg 1001jpgwebcam.jpg and so on as well as a webcamimage.jpg and webcamimage.gif
The two files webcamimage.jpg and webcamimage.gif were overwritten every minute.
Here is what I would suggest.
Turn off all animated webcam settings
Delete all already saved webcam images
Open webcamcapture.exe and under file save reselect the directory (I recommend using webcam for the directory not webfiles)
Then set file name again and see what happens…
If you are using a new webcamcapture.exe let me know what version and I will upgrade my test install to that and test further.
Having tried various settings, those you describe have already been attempted…to no avail. I will go through them again though…this creating another directory and new webcam image files. I have most of the old versions of WD as well, so perhaps could try 'older versions of webcamcapture.exe and see if it is a newer version causing my angst. (seemingly no-one else is having the problem, therefore probably due to something I am setting incorrectly)…
As far as I know, I am using the latest version of wdwebcamcapture, version 7.0…ie I am using WD1037f build from 23 August…
So, to get it clear, what/where should I be setting to create timestamped webcam jpg files, this screen here attached ? (This screen shot shows it not being set, but I have had this set…and I still do not get timestamped files.)
All I wanted was jpg files created every minute, not gif files or animated gifs.
OK, I have got this to work for me now, but it looks like there is a bug in the webcam settings module within WD.
I have now got timestamped jpg files being produced,(called *jpgwebcam.jpg), every minute but only if I set the ‘Every 30 second override’ feature, as well as the ‘produce every minute’ setting. These files are being created every minute, as I require, but are being timestamped with a 30 second filename, ie ‘182030jpgwebcam.jpg’. Screen shots of settings that give me these results along with my folder display showing the ‘30 second filename’.
If I ‘unselect’ the 30 second override, and only have the ‘produce every minute’ set, I no longer have any timestamped files.
So, as I am now getting my files, every minute as I want, but not quite in the way WD should get me the files, I am happy, but perhaps this is something that needs looking at…
you will most likely find that if you check the file properties that file is being created near to the 30 second mark (i.e the create time in the file list you have shown does not show seconds)
Yes Brian, the file is being created approx at the 30 second mark, every minute, (even though the wording on that setting suggests files to be created every 30 seconds). My query is, why do I not get timestamped jpg files every minute, if I only have ‘produce every minute’ set…why do i need to have ‘30 second override’ set as well for time stamped files to be produced ?
I know you are busy with other things…will you get a window to have a look at this ? ie Why I do not get 1minute timestamped webcam files unless set every 30 second override ?
