Web Cam Capture Issue?

Hi all,

I have a couple of issues with Web Cam Capture ver 7.2. Didn’t find solutions with a search on this forum. If there was could someone point me in the right direction. It is probably some setting that I may have missed somewhere.

  1. Whenever I have to restart WD, and I open the Web Cam Capture from the task bar near the time to check my second problem listed below. When I click the arrow to minimize, the window will minimize in two places on the task bar. One near the clock and the other one near the Start. The one near the Start is not functional. When I open it up with the icon near the clock, the window comes up and when I minimize with the arrow the second time everything is okay. The icon near the Start goes away.

  2. In checking with the Web cam settings after restarting WD the Time/Date stamp need to be changed and it appears that the previous settings is not saved for some reason. I have to go to the Ovelay tab and go to the Set the Text Colour/font to reset the size of the Time/date.

I have to do these two things whenever I have to reboot or update WD. Maybe it is just the things that I need to do when updating or rebooting.

Just wondering if this issue is only my issue or others may have the same???

Thanks for any solutions if there are any.

Hi Stan,

Problem 1: you’re not alone. This happends to me on reboot as well, and sometimes when I just open the page when it’s up & running already.
It seemed to start when there was a change in one of the updates that enabled the webcamcapture to start in the system tray, instead on the main desktop.

As I only have to “shrink, open, shrink” then I’ve not really bothered with it as I don’t find it a problem.

Problem 2: I don’t have this issue so I can’t help I’m afraid.

There were two threads dealing with this issue. I believe you need an update on the WebcamCapture.exe file as this is aseparate file to WDisplay but is incorporated in the complete program download. However you can get it from here…

http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/wdwebcamcapture.zip

Threads were…

http://discourse.weather-watch.com/p/184324

Both were in WD Bug Reports Board. You have to Search in there or do an advanced search selecting logical Boards only or the whole lot.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

Thanks Martin for your input. That is what I have to do to eliminate that second Icon from the task bar near the Start.

TokKiwi, whenever I update WD, I normally use the full install so I think that I have the latest version of WebcamCapture.exe. I may be wrong in this assumption. Not really a big deal on the time/date stamp but I do have to manually make the necessary adjustments or the time/date stamp will take up a lot of space on the webcam image. Usually it is quite large and I have to decrease the size each time WD is re-booted. Thanks for looking up those threads as they were of some help but it did not solve my issue yet.

Will live with what it does now, since most of the parts that I use are functioning very well.

Thanks again for all.

Hi Stan - I am quite surprised you are running webcamcapture.exe and survivng with just 512MB of Ram. It may even be aggravating the problem and is a relatively cheap and quick fixto add some more. Just a suggestion and I may be totally wrong… (been known to happen - my DW often reminds me of “many times” )

We allseem to use the utilities differently - I have to edit my pic heavily (sharpness and saturation up full) to get the “poor” quality I get (and that takes some horse power I believe), but I do use the original Overlay system on primary camera (only one…) and that stays the same every time. Sorry I can’t be of more help… :frowning: Have a nice weekend.

Hi,

TokKiwi, interestingly, my WD computer also runs my APRS as well. At first I started out with 256 MB of RAM before I added the web cam. Then found an unused Cam and put it to use with WD and WDL and upped the RAM to 384 MB for a very long time without major problems. Had some minor problems that I could live with. Added another stick of RAM and upped it to 512 MB a couple of months ago and some of those minor problems went away. So, I think that you may be right by adding more RAM. More memory does not hurt the system, so may be looking for a 512 MB stick to add and up it to 768 MB and see what happens. The WD/APRS computer has only two slots for the RAM and will only go up to 1024 MB of RAM. Will see what happens if or when I install additional RAM

BTW, in the Help/About WD tab for WD I see that the RAM is over 100 MB and when I do a free memory it goes up to over 200 MB. So I don’t know if the system is running on fumes or not.

Thanks again for your reply.

Follow this link and it is well described…

TokKiwi,

Thanks for the link. Will do that and will email it to Brian later this evening. Hope that, when his time permits, he will find something to solve this little “itch” with Web Cam Capture overlay issue.

Thanks again for all.

for the font issue:
first thing, you need to have ticked, show a label
in the overlay setup
(then click on the big save button, right hand side of the program)
then use the size selection, and keep going smaller until its -ve…and then its the size you need
then click on the save button next to the zero number for the selector
and then click on the big save button
Cheers

Brian,

Thank you for looking for my issue on this topic. I can’t seem to make the size selection to go to “-ve”. When I click on the up or down arrow the font just gets larger and larger. Sometimes I can make it smaller until I don’t see the font but it does not go to “-ve”. Guess that I may be adjusting in the wrong place?

Hope that I will find the solution as time permits.

Thank you again.

i got the font size to go smaller OK using your settings
so you should be able to
(i ended up with -49 for the size )

Brian,

Got the font smaller and to the size that will work. Hope now that it will stay when I update WD or the system needs a reboot.

Thank you for looking at this issue.
