Weather Display stops responding

I am using a Davis Vantage Vue weather station on a Windows 10 computer with Weather Display Ver 10.37R Build 81. If I click on the icon in the Task Bar nothing happens.
It stops responding and I have to use Task Manager to stop it and restart Weather Display. It happens very often. Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

TBH I have no idea why your WD stops responding, but I notice that you are running a very old version optimised for Windows XP, not Windows 10. Maybe there is some incompatibility?

You could try a more recent version: if you don’t want to go the whole hog I can recommend 10.37S build 120, still available from the download page. I ran that successfully until very recently.

I would try updating Weather Display. The newest version is 10.37S b 143 so looks like it’s beeen a while since you updated.
There’s been many fixed for different issues along the way.

I was typing the same thing.
Your version of WD is from March 2014 and there have been over 200 Build versions since then and getting on for nearer 300 updates. Your best chance of resolving the issue is to start by installing the latest version because so much has changed since 2014, including the compiler used to write the software, that tracking down your issue is near impossible.

Because you’ll be updating from such an old version, I would take a full backup of the WDISPLAY program folder and rename it to something like “wdisplay_backup”. Then you haven’t lost everything if something goes wrong.

Leave the original program folder where it is and go to the Weather Display Downloads page and download version 10.37S Build 143. This will download a file called “wdisplay32.exe”.

Before you start the install, save & exit your current Weather Display program, and make sure all the associated background processes are shut down as well.

Now double click on the wdisplay32.exe file and follow the setup wizard, make sure you install the new version in the same folder as your old one, otherwise you may need to apply for a replacement licence code.
When the install is complete, launch Weather Display and make sure everything is working and setup as you want it. You’ll notice new icons and some of the layout has changed slightly, but most of it will be the same.

If you want to change the location of the Weather Display folder then here’s the FAQ for doing that, to make sure you don’t loose your configuration.

Any problems then post in here and let use know how you get on.

Why are you clicking the task bar icon? When you startup WD does the console show on your screen? Are you shrinking/hiding the console window after starting up WD? The more info you can provide the better…

I had the same problems even with a new version of WD on my W10 PC, I found it was a problem in the registry files associated with WD, how I fixed it was to use a program called ““CCleaner”” it’s a free program and has a registry cleaning program, (and other things) before I installed the newest version of WD I did a scan of the registry, and it found several things wrong with WD’s registry file’s, I let it do it’s job then installed the newest version of WD, things have never been happier at my end after the correction to WD’s registry files.

Yes I am hiding it. I updated to the latest and so far so good.
Thanks
