taking over from 10.30g thread, this is now a different issue.
I start 10.31e and the datalogger window pops up but it will NOT read any data.
If I close 10.31e and open Weatherlink or whatever that sw is that came with the VP Pro, it works fine
and reads from COM3 (USB). But WD just will not read and if I close the datalogger popup, then WD still will
not show that any data is coming in off the datalogger.
Somehow some driver or code has been corrupted on WD… I tried to install 10.31e on top of 10.30g
but to no avail… help, my site is down and I am getting alot of traffic at this time of the year.
What a time for this thing to crash.
I look in Control Panel → Station Setup → datalogger setup/info and here is what I see continually coming out…

I don;t know what I did exactly. But I copied an old wdisplay.ini into c:\windows and reinstalled 10.31e and still I had a problem. But now I went into the com port setup and it was on COM5. I set to COM3, original setting, and now the main c\wdisplay is now running. So the site is back up.
But my confidence in the workaround couldn’t be lower.
So the question remains… how best to reinstall WD completely yet keep your configuration?
I did look at the move to a new PC faq, in fact, I did just that to this new PC about a month ago.
But that is a wholesale copy of all files and copying registry settings, so I am not too confident that would help.
Since reinstalling WD doesn’t help, the bug lies in files external to the install (maybe wdisplay.ini?) or registry settings.
Since wdisplay.ini is the only file that changed between non working and working, some WD bug must have corrupted the .ini file settings.
Don’t know how… but only conclusion I can come to.
If your not already I recommend you enable the backup routine in WD. It will copy your files so if something like this happens you have extra copies of the ini and registry files.
