WD not registering rainfall correctly and the rainfall totals are not reseting at start of new month

I have been using WD for years - and last year I changed my weather station to an Ecowitt GW1103 weather station as my last one died.

I have two issues:

  • On multiple occasions over the last 6 months, the rainfall has not reset monthly back to zero on the 1st of the month. I have had to do that manually. I have confirmed that the lg.txt file is being created for the new month.

  • rainfall is not registering properly on all rain events - it seems to be hit and miss yet everything else is updating fine, although in looking in the lg.txt file it does not seem to be recording on a regular basis and I can see that its now recording events consistently again since I restarted WD yesterday. Before restarting, I checked the data received count to check that it was increasing and it was, so that indicates that the weather station is sending data. The Cron GW1000 was also showing raw data coming through . I went back and looked in the lg.txt file for December and it seems that from the 30th December it recorded only a few events. I think this issue has something to do with the first issue I mentioned.

I was running 10.37S and today I updated it to the latest build 150 in the hope that it might fix the issue.

Anyone else seen this happening?

In the station type control panel have you ticked the option to use ‘Use station rain total’?

Worked for me.

I read that setting to mean that it takes the totals from the station itself rather than recording it via the data collector.

The weather station could fail and I lose all my rain readings or does it store it in WD still? I would like to understand this setting further before I change it.

It rained last night and both WD and Ecowitt have the same readings today

My experience in using that setting is that WD uses the rain totals and stores them as usual in the log files. I can see the totals on screen incrementing as it rains. I’ve had no issues using this. Just make sure you reset values are the same in the station as WD.
