My current version of WD (v10.37N Build 03) is not receiving data from Gill’s WindObserver II.
A previous version did, v10.37J Build 07.
I’ve previously posted this issue in the Weather Watch Forum, no response there.
I know I’m receiving the data via my COM1 port, this is confirmed by using hyperterminal and WindCOM.
Looking at the WS2010/WS2500 Data Logger Info/Setup, the data in not coming through to WD.
I’m very eager to use this anemometer because it’s VERY accurate and reliable.
The weather station is currently a WS-2305, but I’m converting to a complete 1-Wire setup using only 1-Wire sensors, except wind and wind-direction (obviously).
I’ve also reported problems with using the WindObserver II together with WS-2305 (gave unwanted windspikes).
PC is a Pentium 4 2.4gHz, 80GB HDD, 2GB RAM, running Win XP SP3.
Can someone have a look at this? Please!
Additional info: In the version history I’ve found the following:
24th April 10.37j Build 10 update: New wdwebcamcapture.exe version: updated component, should fix some things.Gill windsonic windspeed spikes should be fixed
4th Dec 10.37M Build 20 Update: A few more fixes for the av/ext dates. Gillwindsonic CRC error check added
What is this CRC check? Anything I can use to analyze my problem? If so, how?
I’m having some problems finding how to enable CRC check in my WindCOM software (Gill software used to configure WindObserver II)
What does “CRC” stands for anyway?
I think I’ve tried just about every configuration possibility’s in WindCOM, but WD is not responding positively.
I’ve attached some screenshots from WindCOM and WD.
I’m open for any suggestions.

The same data as shown in HyperTerminal

Firstly hes detecting a letter Q at the commencement of the string as that is what the windsonic outputs to identify its self, reading the manuals of your unit and mine it could be any letter A-Z in the case of defauly windsonic Q is the unit id. In the mode yours is, A is the unit id.
Seconly you need to set for wind speed in m/s, so looking at your config window that’d be mps and for 1Hz output rate not 5 Hz.
When Brian changes the detect lettert o accept more, be interesting to see if it comes to life.
I’m looking foreward to solving this issue.
I’ve set the Output rates to 1 Hz, and Output units to mps (m/s)
I don’t know how or if I can change the “unit ID” for my WO2 (WindObserver II)
It seems there are some differences between WO2 and the WindSonic
Don’t know if of any importance: I’m using an CommFront RS-232/RS-485/RS-422 converter.
Info on this converter Here: http://www.commfront.com/RS232-RS485-RS422-Serial-Converters/RS232-RS485-RS422-Converter.htm
One more thing, just for trying:
I reinstalled version 10.37j Build 07
And voila, WD is receiving and logging data as it should from my WO2 (see image below).
So, in my mind this is an software-issue for Brian to solve.
Data from WD v10.37j Build 07
Many thanks, PeterM and Brian for helping me out here
now that I have the CRC error checking working, I dont need to check for that letter Q
I will get an update for you and let you know when that is ready to download
