WD Just Stopped Working

I have been evaluating WD for the past 6 days, and today when I booted my machine (WD starts at boot-up) I received this message:

“Weather Display Has Stopped Working - a problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.”

So I uninstalled/reinstalled it, and the same error box pops up. Now it won’t even complete the install before faulting.

Any ideas what might have happened?

Mark

Hi Mark,
Just a couple of suggestions. You did not mention which WX station or interface, if it is a USB interface it is very important to have the latest USB drivers for those devices. I see you are using v.10.37r b9 which is about 4 months old now, you may wish to try the latest build of b29. Last, it has been mentioned by some users that virus checkers can cause odd-ball problems, you may try disabling the virus checker for your test.

Thanks for the quick response ve3gsi.

I have downloaded b 29 but I can’t even finish the install/setup without the error message popping up.

Just tried it with Microsoft Security Essentials switched off and still no luck. I get as far as the pop-up splash screen for WD, then the language selection box (I check English), then the nag screen for payment (I click OK), and the error box then appears.

Mark

If you’re getting the language selection and payment screens, do you have the full, paid, version of WD or do you have a trial version?
It could be that the 30 day trail period is up?

If you have paid for WD already then it could be that the settings have been lost and it’s not recognising that you have paid, in which case have a look in the WD folder for a file called WDISPLAY.INI and open it in something like NotePad to check that there’s something in there.
It could be corrupt in which case run through this FAQ to recover the settings: Recovering Weather Display Configuration

One other thing; when you install the update, make sure ALL Weather Display related programs are shut down, the likes of Realtime FTP, Webcamcapture and WD FTP as these can stop the new files from being installed correctly if they are still running.

Still no joy. To answer a couple of questions: It is the eval copy & I have had it about a week. I am using the USB method of data transfer. I do not run Realtime FTP, Webcamcapture and WD FTP.

I have run regedit and removed all traces of WD. I have run the install program as administrator. I have checked running processes and there is nothing there that I can see that might interfere. I use the Acu-Rite Model 01025 5-in-1 weather sensor & console.

My USB cord is NOT attached at time of install. Could that be a problem?

Mark

This time I did the install in Safe Mode. It got farther than before, but still gave the error message, and then these 2 application error screens:

  1. APP Error
Exception EOlesyserror in Module WeatherD.exe at 00F609E. Library not registered.

  2. App Eror
Exception EAccess Violation in module ntdll.dll at 000222B2. Acess Violation at address 772C2282 in module ntdll.dll. Write address 00000008.

Mark

I take it that you’re downloading the full program from the WD downloads page and not just the ZIP file?

Correct Budgie.

Mark

Mark,

When you uninstalled did you reboot the machine after the uninstall and prior to reinstalling?

When you reinstalled are you installing to C:/

When reinstalled did you right click and Run as Administrator?

Thanks to all for your advice. I fixed the problem by restoring my machine to a date earlier than when the trouble started, and then upgraded to v 29.

All is well.

Mark

PS JAXWeather - we winter in Orange Park & summer in Maine.

it seems that the errors were actualy being produced by the separate acurite.exe data reader program
(which needs .NET 4.0 or later)
