WD freezing -> Davis VP USB data logger problem

Hello all. WD keeps freezing. I usually have to restart the computer. It’s been doing it for about a year and I would like to find out why. I am running 10.37H on a dedicated computer. It has just done it again and I have attached the error file that windows came up with. I also have a DMP file. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

do you have a USB data logger?
if so, then that is the problem

the solutions are:
a), swap to get a serial one (and then a good quality usb to serial adaptor) (best solution)
b), try a driver upgrade for the usb data logger from Davis
c), get a mini usb cable that has ferrit chokes on each end, to replace the one Davis has

there are many many posts of problems with the usb data logger on this and other software forums

Also didn’t Steve (SoftWx) post not long ago that he has quite a few reports of VVP also helping with USB loggers?

–Dave

yes, that would be option d), try setting up and using VVP

Thanks for the help. What is a VVP please?

Virtual Vantage Pro
check the forum section for that, under Tinplate software

Which version of CP210x USB Composite Device do you have?

In device manager under serial ports right click CP210x USB and properties.

Several version exist and I have found 4.40 from davisnet works well.

http://www.davisnet.com/support/weather/download/SiLabs_WIN_USB_DRIVERS_4_40.exe

5.0 and 5.1 exist but these cause my XP SPK2 machine to BSOD every so often.

If you do change version the old one must be un-installed first from add/remove programs (normally two items) with of course the logger usb unplugged.

New (or older) version can then be installed followed by plugging logger back in.

Or if you are on good terms with davis get a true serial one if you have a spare 9 pin serial port
