Hi folks,
i have a question, will WD work on a windows server 2008 R2 machine?
I would like to upgrade my xp server to a windows server 2008 R2 and i’m worried about WD wil still work??
I’m running Windows Server 2008 (32-bit) for all of my weather apps… not R2, but no issues here.
aha thanks for asking that… I was wondering myself. However if I go to Server 08 it will have to be x64 bit.
would it make a difference for WD ? 64 or 32?
I’ve just migrated WD to Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 and it works fine. Upgraded to 10.37P (88) in the process.
I run WD on Small Business Server 2008 64bit until one year with out any problems.
Sorry for bringing up an old topic, but I would like to know if anyone is still running WD on Windows Server 2008 R2. If so, which version and how stable is it running.
I am wanting to move WD over from a Windows 2K machine that’s been running since 2002. WD is the only thing left running on this machine and I would very much like to retire it from service to save energy.
Also, can I use the Move instructions from the FAQ. Is there anything different I should know about moving to Server2008r2?

I am running all my weather stuff on Windows 2008 R2 (64bit).
I have Weather display, wxsim installed in the c:\Program Files directory, not in the suggested c:\Program Files (x86) directory.
Nexstorm and its associated applications are installed in the c:\Program Files (Cx86) directory.
All works fine, I do have the virus scanner switched off for the WD and wxsim directory.
This setup is running for at least a year now, no problem. I am very happy with this configuration. I have UAC turned off.
Yes you can move WD,
- Install new version of WD on the new box, make sure you use the same directory structure as old configuration.
- Copy WD over to the new box (overwriting the new install).
- Do the WDFTP reg install
- Download the WD exe file and copy to the new box.
This is how I do it, and has not failed me yet :-).

In the office I run Windows SBS 2011, same story WD runs ok on that one, but I have not tried it for long.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply and the detailed instructions. I am going to give it a try.

At the risk of going over old ground…
I’m am looking to purchase a new server to host Weather Display which will probably use HP ProLiant Windows Foundation Server 2008 as an Operating System.
Not sure at the moment how this differs from Windows Server 2008 (R2/32-bit/64-bit) mentioned above.
Will Weather Display run ok on this operating system?
Apologies if this seams like the same question but I would like to be sure before buying the server and associated software!
Thanks in advance
Colin
Hi
I would presume it would work OK, do not see any reason why it would not
(others might chime in)
Foundation is just a cheaper version of Server (with some features/roles removed) and will run WD just as well as any other version (Standard, Enterprise or Datacenter).
