UV Readings on Oregon WMR 200

One for the UK members  I am using aOregon WMR 200 with an Oregon UV Sensor, if there is any members in the UK which has the same sort of set up could you be as good as to let me know if you are getting ANY UV readings at all.

For the previous two years I have forked out for a new UV sensor as they only seem to have about an eight month life cycle, I dont think that I am prepared to fork out for ANOTHER new one just for this summer.

The red light flashes on the sensor at a regular interval so it seems to be transmitting but nothing seems to be registering on my base station, WD or my website and with the sun we have had the last few days I thought that something would have indicated

Many thanks,

Not in the UK but in Alaska and to get UV readings here in winter I have to point the unit at the sun. In other words from having it level and pointed up I have it pointed about 15 degrees above the horizon. Learn this after going one winter with out readings. Sun so low it just doesn’t record any thing. Unit is going on it’s 3rd year of service.

My UV egg has gone down, prob lasted about 2 years (i think) not news you wanted but…

I got one of these sensors at Christmas. It is mounted vertically.

I saw the first non-zero reading in late Feb, since when I’ve seen them appear more and more, on sunny days. Nothing more than 1 yet, but that is no surprise. As the unit only reports integer values, these results look ā€œsensibleā€ so far. My first non-zero readings were not far off the date when Budgie’s UV equipped Davis VP2 reported its first > 1.0 value.

Thanks guys, it seems as though the ā€œEggā€ has packed up yet again, I don’t think that I am prepared to spend out another

Here in central MX, we dropped down to a daily reading of 6 during the winter and are now back up to 10-11 daily, of course we’re a long ways S of the UK.

Some information if you are looking at an alternative UV sensor: http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/49934

Thanks for that James, I did think about the 1 wire system but my WMR200 is so far away from the garden I woulg have to have such a long cable run. #-o

Hi, I am in Bath in the uk and use the OS uv sensor. I have been getting readings since early February of 1 with the occasional 2. I have had the unit for just under two years with no real problems. Due to the limited resolution of the unit I don’t think I would bother replacing. My unit is in full sun for most of the day but the unit fails to record about 3 hours before subset - probably due to limited resolution.
