Using WDL With FrontPage Extended Website

I am trying to install WDL into my website via the FrontPage editor. I have pulled the three files into the Frontpage directory and made the two modifications outlined in the installation instructionsl. None of the directories referenced in thei instructions exist in Frontpage. I think most of the files extracted need to go directly into the web server and not via the FrontPage editor

Has anyone else tried this?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Pat,

I would be highly concerned with trying to use FrontPage to upload any WD files at all as FrontPage has ideas of its own what they should contain…

I would simply make any modifications required using notepad and then upload them with a regular FTP client or the built in WD Manual Upload/Run a program from the FTP Settings under Control Panel…

my entire site is Frontpage!
But I suppose you could use it as a code editor (html) if you so wished. Go and copy one of Carterlakes setups and see how it works in Frontpage. other than that… if you do try to upload whole pages, it might take some time.

However…http://home.mchsi.com/~dsmweather/

I have just succeded in using some of the FP features, but I’m still using FP2000. With this version - note I can’t answer for more recent ones - I had some difficulty at first. My big mistake was to try and insert a Navigation Bar: this I could not get to work. Although they did work, I renounced on Shared Borders as well.

The first thing to do is decide on a Theme. Then, directly in http:///weather/ (or whatever you call it), open a New Web and create index.html (or .htm) with your chosen theme. Then, in the Navigation page, pull in this file as your Home Page and then all your wx.htm(l) files as child pages, Saving each one.

Then open a new web to your D:\weatherdisplay\webfiles directory and repeat the above, and publish to your website. When you have done that, add all the wxlocal.htm files in the Navigation view, but right-click all the wx.htm files, in turn, and uncheck Included in Navigation Bars for each, even though you will not be using the Bars. You can then edit the wxlocal.htm pages to your heart’s content.

Navigation: as you can’t use the bars, you can use Hover Buttons and these work just fine as long as you publish after saving.

Your wxlocal.htm files will also be published to your website. This is not evil and you can either leave them there or delete them, as you wish. They don’t serve any useful purpose there, but they don’t do any harm, either.

I’ve just finished doing this at Alternative Energy in Cyprus and you will see how I’ve used the hover buttons.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information…I am not front page smarter, and have acquired basick skills editing HTM files. I know have the presentation screen on my web site www.wallsracing.com/weather.html My problem now is that I cannot get the weather display program to upload weather data to the site. Everything…getting from the weather station to the WD program ok, but not to the website…going to uninstall and try setting it up again :? :?

Anyway, thanks again

Pat

Pat,

I wouldn’t do that yet…

It appears your clientraw file isn’t updating. Try reviewing this FAQ and see if that helps:

Thanks everyone for the help…I am getting closer. Good data is being received by Clientraw at the website but I am not sure the Flashplayer is doing it’s movie thing. When I …or anyone logs unto the website (www.wallsracing.com/weather.html), the first screen to com up has the latest weather information. But, after 10 to 15 seconds a notice comes up “No data received since…” I have noticed on working sites the the little data light flashes green 2 or 3 times and then flashes red. When the red comes on, the display refreshes. At my site, the green flashes a couple or three times and then stays blank when you would be expecting a red. There-in lies the problem

I ran the data parser this evening and confirmed all the data was correct…just need ot figure out how to keep sending frames back

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Pat

hi
it sounds maybe like the web server is caching that file…
thats where I would like…at trying to avoid it caching files…or at least that file…
there has been some other people with this problem before…and there is a solution…but i am not sure what it is , but there will hopefully be some experts here that can help out with that (and the server settings needed, etc)
