UK Met Office Observation Times

Hi,

Does anyone know when the UKMO do their daily observations of temp, wind and rain. I want to know so I can put the times in Weather Display so it resets at the same time.

Their day starts and ends at 9am which can have some strange consequences at times, although in reality the midnight reset can also lead to for example minimums in the middle of the night affecting two days.
Be warned if you go that route Wunderground will get horribly confused.
The new WOW pages are on midnight reset too.

I have been running my WD on the 0900z reset since I began with it many years ago as it was in tune with my existing observations dating back to 1992. I wold rather my data be accurate for those who might need it in years to come, and who compare it to existing Met Office records. I do keep a separate manual log of the important weather data too as I also submit data to COL and others who use the same time.
personally I would go with it.

Best wishes

Mike

On the other side of the coin; despite being a UKMO Auxillary Met Observer for 7 years, since starting my own station in 2007 I’ve always used the midnight reset as I want to know the highs & lows for the day, not part of today and some of tomorrow.
I also send my data to COL and they have no problems with a midnight reset.
As for UKMO using my data in the future; one can only hope but I’m not holding my breath on this one as they seem to rely more on computer modeling than actual observations these days. WOW is a step in the right direction so one can only hope.

Personally, I would go with what ever suits you best. There are settings within WD that allow a 9am reset.
