Tweaking WD

I have a couple of things (issues) I would like to do with WD, if possible, and a few minor issues I would like guidance on:

[ul]
[li]If one adds a Custom Tag to the WD display, can that CustomTag be given a display color? Example: I have a NWS Warning tag showing. I would like it to be in red only if there are active advisories/warnings etc. Is this possible? If so how? [/li]
[li]More importantly, We have had snow showers all day, never saw sun, lots of snow all day. My Main WD display Wx Icon shows sunny. How does one tell WD it is snowing out and is overcast? I attempted to have the local Metar Icon that is downloaded override the WD display but that lasts about 5 minutes then WD reverts back to the Wx Icon to Sunny.[/li]
[li]WD does send the Weather alerts to my cell phone fine. I would like to try and minimize the text issued as opposed to all the extra text. I also would like to format it so it does not skip spaces every 2 lines making the text very long. How, if able, can this be done?[/li]
[li]Can one limit the amount of times WD issues the alert text to both email and cell phone. I receive anywhere from 2-6 messages in an hour for as long as the warning/advisory remains active.[/li][/ul]

That is enough for now. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all you may respond.

Regarding metar, in Control panel/Summary Images/Summary Image setup/ make sure you have unticked the setting:

“show WM918/…etc”

Arnt

you can customise the warning email sent
and or use the subject only option or sms option

re the custom label, no, its not possible for it to change colour at this stage like that

Thanks Brian. I will work tonight on customizing the Warning email. I also will work on trying to figure out how to send SMS with cleaner text. It sends fine, I received over 21 SMS messages and wonder if that can be cut to send only maybe once every couple of hours.

RE: the custome label. Is this something that could/may be incorporated in a future updated release? I think it would be nice to have it change to red (for example) when the NOAA warning Label goes active for example.

That worked, after a second setting in Control panel/Summary Images/Main Screen Icon / Forecast Icon setup / Text Scroll /“show WM918/…etc” also had to be unticked. I did not notice both were ticked. Thanks!!!

Regarding the above original question about displaying the correct icon in WD.

I have done all the above. It is now beyond 24 hours later and nothing has changed. Currently it is Overcast here. The Metar (KMGW) I download also shows Overcast. My Local Forecast text shows Overcast… yet I am still showing an icon of CLEAR night.

I have unticked all “show WM918/…etc” as previously suggested. The original unticking seemed to have worked but since then all days show as SUNNY and night shows CLEAR. Neither of which has been true here for a week. The only time it changes is when actual precipitation is registered but then only until the “stopped raining” icon shows for the brief set period.

What can I show whomever, as far as settings, to help diagnose this problem. This obviously not only screws up my local records but all the NEWN, MAWN, WxUnderground, CWOP info as well.

you must have a setting set wrong
.zip and email me your settings files

The settings have been sent. Appreciate your patience with my… umm… inability to get things right. #-o

Bracing myself for 8+ inches of snow over next 24 hour period, according to the NWS. Yee Haa!!!

the setting is:
remove the text you have entered for the current conditions now, under input daily weather, current weather (and click on reset there too)

also I see you have modified the main screen…but the wind direction dial needs to be reset for the width and height…there is another thread on how to reset that…

OK, I had previously removed those items, but evidently did not reset. So, for now things are correct there.

I cannot locate the forum where resetting the Wind Direction size direction is located. Can one show me where it is?

and see near the end of that thread

Brian;

OK, reset the wind direction dial. The above listed forum was spot on to repair my issue.

NOW an interesting problem developed: I was out all evening. When left station running perfectly.

Returned about 6 hours later and the Main Screen weather icon disappeared. So, my first reaction was to just shut down, reboot the computer and reload WD. Current Weather condition icon still gone. I cannot call up the forecast or the metar images (which happens when you click on the weather condition icon).

It does appear to be updating on my website though so I am confused. I allowed the program to run, after reboot an hour and still no icon. I did check the Metar location and they are reporting with no errors reported just in case it was a problem with the Metar location (KMGW - Morgantown, WV Airport).

Any ideas there? I did check previous settings, as you noted above and all is as originally set. Question: What registry entry control the Condition icon in case something went amiss and I have to reset that setting (delete and allow WD to reset/rewrite it).

The problem listed above has been resolved. I just reloaded the registry entries (nothing done to the registry except as described in the forum listed to fix direction dial that I am aware of) and the condition icon returned. I will monitor this over next 24 hours to see if the issue returns again. Meanwhile I backed up my registry again to current date and settings.

Backing up the Registry and settings in Action is always a good first step before attempting changes… And to ensure current settings are able to be salvaged. With the aforementioned thread, sometimes it is hard to know how much detail is needed to fix a problem or what detail is missing, so where to now…? WD can self heal in some situations as you found out…

Well stated. I was unsure if entering the backed up reg file would resolve the issue, but in light of the fact we are currently under a winter storm warning (which, by the way, with about 6.5 hours left on the clock so to speak and which has panned into nothing more than a scare thus far. I anticipate the warning to go inactive hours prior to scheduled drop.) I wanted to ensure I received all the data as it would have been the first real large test of severe weather for my station.

An extremely valuable lesson learned! Back-up registry prior to editing.

is there something m,issing that is preventing the text from my Metar from showing up on the website.

Example: Currently as I type this the Metar I use is showing “overcast, light snow”

My website shows the Snow Icon but the text says: “Dry.”

Currently it is snowing fairly heavily outside so I would classify that not being dry outside.

FYI: I have called LaCrosse Tech and they are replacing my Hydro-Thermo Sensor as it appears the Humidity Sensor is not working properly. Currently it is showing 76% and the metar shows almost 97% (which may be part of my overall problem).

Also I am finding it necessary to re-import the backed-up WD registry entries every 6-8 hours as the condition icon seems to quit working, meaning it goes back to clear day/clear night after a period of time “forgetting” to use the downloaded Metar as the icon to set. I have been watching this for a period of almost 30 hours. comparing the Metar to the WD display and it has yet to match consistently for any period beyond 6 hours.
