I have recently bought a La Crosse 2310 wireless weather logger. I downloaded Weather Display trial version 10.19y a few days ago to test a setup for a web page on www.wunderground.com - I got everything working tickkety-boo except for occasional times where the logger would show data being collected from the sensors (wind, rain, temp, etc.) but the application was not logging them and updating the graphs.
I also have gotten this working with Heavy Weather with no problems.
I’m running Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 2 - with 2.8 GHz cpu, 512 Mb RAM
I read the FAQ - the first thing I saw was to upgrade to that latest version - I went to the download site and saved a copy of 10.20p to local disk – the full installation download. I then did an uninstall of the previous version from the Control Panel. I then did an install of the new version (10.20p). No error messages showed up.
I now cannot get Weather Display to work at all. When I click on the icon then the application goes through the startup process and brings up the application window. The header says “2310 Comm Port ok” and “Version 10.20p” The Data Quality icon at the bottom shows RED and the Data Received icon shows blank and 0 requests. After 1-2 seconds the application dies and the window goes away.
I checked the system log and see the following entry:
“Faulting application weatherd.exe, version 10.20.0.0, faulting module weatherd.exe, version 10.20.0.0, fault address 0x003b7f08”
Does anyone have any suggestions please? My first thought is – Is there any remnent of the previous version that has not been uninstalled correctly? I cannot find anything obvious - I even deleted the folders between installations. Has anyone else seen similar issues with 10.20p?
I know this is the trial version - I was running it through some testing with a web interface before purchasing at the end of 30 days - but like the interface and would like to use this one. If anyone has any suggestions, comments to help me get this running I would sure appreciate it.
I would say that the trick is NOT to uninstall the old version of WD as it may delete registry and .ini settings and possibly your data - especially if you say you have deleted folders as well.
Any new version should just be installed over the top of what is already there and any changes to programs will replace the original ones and the registry entries and data/initial settings are kept.
I don’t think the FAQ mentions to uninstall first does it? But also it doesn’t tell you not to do this I think.
But you say a reinstall of 10.20p does not work. Maybe there is something from the old installation still there.
Somehow I think you may have to start from scratch again.
Have a read of this topic to see if it helps
There is also a WeatherD.ini file in the windows directory that you may need to delete. But normally just install the program over the old version. Every thing is done automatically.
Cheers
check that wdisplayftp.ini has been fully removed from the registery under HKEY_CURRENT_USER using regedit from run command
if you remove it if still there and the wdisplay.ini from the windows folder then install the latest version
for future updated you then just install over the existing one keeping your settings
Thanks to all replies - cleared the c:\windows .ini file and re-installed - everything working again. I’ll remember to do an upgrade the proper way next time.
you should be OK, only problem arises with the firewall, but once that is configured to let WD have access, then its OK again
(if you already have a firewall , then disbale the XP one that is enabled with SP2 maybe)
