Tools to decode weather data files?

I am just wondering if there are any tools to view some or all of the different weather data that wxsim then uses. I want to check what the data consists of, and what the data is, and how old, et c. Most types of data downloaded apparently is in condenced formats.

I know I can find out how theses files are going to be interpred, but if the tools already exists, why reinvent…?

Cheers,

I can’t think of any simple/free tools to do this. You could look at Digital Atmosphere which I think will import some of the data formats.

You won’t find anything to handle the GFS data format though…that’s a proprietary format agreed between me and Tom. I can dig out the spec and post it here if it’s useful, although from memory the most important bit of info you want is the first line which shows the run date/time. The other rows are just 3 hourly sets of various data items for your location.

Thanks Chris,

I will check Digital Athmosphere, but if it costs to much I will have to rely on published documents of the data and write some code…Still winter nights here at almost 64N, and the TV is “fifty channels and nothing on…”

Try here http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/ for some free tools.

Again thanks Chris,

That 's a lot of apps and utilities… Will take some time to download and check…
