Hi,
I’m on my second Davis Vantage Pro2 Wireless weather station, this one is just 2 years old. A couple of times in the last moth my temp would start showing -51. The first time I checked the connection of the sensor outside and rebooted my console and it fixed it. It did the same thing this morning but I had to reboot my Console 5 times to get it to read the correct temp. I called Davis and they said it sounded like the temp sensor going out, I said that was unusual since it’s only 2 years old. My last station lasted 10 years with no sensor issues. He also said I could try changing the Station no. from 1 to something else just in case I was picking up some other station, he also said the reboot fixing it was probably coincidental. I haven’t changed the Station No. yet, but if this happens again I’ll try it. I was just wondering if any Davis Vantage Pro2 Wireless owners have had a similar issue? Thanks in advance.
Our university weather station did something kind of similar years ago. We were in the midst of a polar plunge and my station at home would read temps into the negative range but the university station would flat line at 9 degrees. When the temps rose back up the station would pick back up but read a few degrees different than mine (granted the stations were separated by 10 miles). When temps plunged the station would stall at 9 degrees and flatline. Davis said it was a bad temp sensor. The station was sent in for repair and calibration and since then it has been spot on.
Sounds like a bad sensor to me. You can ask Davis if there is an exchange price for the sensor and ask for advance replacement, they send you a good one, then you return the bad one rather than being totally down in the meantime. Note that there are third party replacements now that may be less expensive than Davis.
Thanks for the replies, I guess it probably is the sensor. I’ll get a hold of Davis and see if I can get an exchange. I just wish it went out in the Summer instead of the Cold Winter. Thanks again.
Also check out http://scaledinstruments.com/ for Davis parts.
Murphy’s Law of weather stations apply…it only goes wrong when conditions are the worse.
Thanks niko, I just ordered the temp/hum sensor from Scaled Instruments it was $44.95 plus $6.95 shipping total $51.90. I don’t think that’s bad, now if it will just warm up a little before I have to change it.
You are lucky to get more than three years out of them but cost is not outrageous - it’s only a tiny thing on a lead though!
I was lucky with my last Pro2, it lasted 10 years. I guess they don’t make them like they used to.
Well, I received my new Temp/Hum sensor from Scaled Instruments on Thursday and installed it on Fri. It lasted 2 days before dipping to -90. The first time it did it I rebooted the console and it came back. The second time I rebooted the console 3 times to get it back. It did it 2 hours later and I just said heck with it and it came back by itself 4 hours later. The thing is that the -90 no longer shows up in WD, WD just shows the last temp before the loss. I know rebooting the console shouldn’t have anything to do with it but it seems to help. I am now going to try and assign the ISS to another channel. I have it on 1, the default. I also have my anemometer on a second transmitter which is using channel 5. I guess I’ll try 2, 3, and 4 to see if any of those fix the problem, after that I’m at a loss.
That’s not good
