System repeatedly crashing from scores of "FTPUPD's"

Larry, try this new Ftpupd.exe version
http://www.weather-display.com/downloadfiles/ftpupd.zip

i.e unzip to where you have WD installed

I’ve installed it and have my fingers crossed.

Thanks.

Unfortunately neither the new Ftpupd.exe version nor my finger crossing worked. I started W-D around 0200 LT and it jammed at 0650 LT. :frowning:

I’ve rebooted at about 1300 LT; hasn’t made any FTPUPD’s in TM as of 1415 LT.

In case any of this helps:

In the PC’s “LAN Properties” only TCP/IP is ticked.

In W-D > Control Panel > Internet Setup:
Connections:
Main Internet Switch ON
I have a permanent connection ticked
Use W-D’s own FTP ticked
Use Passive mode ticked

there must be something about whats on your PC
(antivirus/firewall or similar)

only thing I can do is try and duplicate the problem here with your settings

but I doubt I will be able to, as there are no other reports of this particular problem

one thing is if using Vista or W7 then make sure WeatherD.exe is set to run as administrator

Hi Brian,

The W-D I started at about 1300 LT hadn’t made any FTPUPD’s in TM as of 1415 L.
At 1550 LT I noticed W-D had stopped uploading to Wunderground and CWOP. I opened TM immediately and it had 7 FTPUPD’s in the Processes column.

I closed W-D and as it always does after it makes these FTPUPD’s the PC poped up a message:

PROGRAM ERROR
WeatherD.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows
You will have to restart the program. An error log is being created.

The OS is Windows 2000 Pro SP4. I’ll send you some more data on the PC from the laptop.

Thanks,
Larry

what is LT and TM?

Local Time and Task Manager

how much memory on the PC?

The PC’s system summary is attached. That shows the memory around 777,000 kb.

I stumbled across the “DrWatson” file. Maybe you know what it means, I sure don’t. I think its interesting that the earlier items don’t show any FTPUPD.EXE’s though.

I noticed the “weatherd.ELF” file listed after all the folders on the C: drive; all the other W-D files are elsewhere. Is that supposed to be there?

Thanks,
Larry

1-30-11.ZIP (36.4 KB)

DrWatson 12-10 thru 1-11.zip (65.1 KB)

which build of WD are you using?

10.37Q Build23

there is one problem right there
build 10 to 24 had a memory leak
(see the WD web site or the history.txt file)
you need to be using build 25 or later

also, check the size of the file Ftplog.txt
if its large, delete that file

please define the size above which is “too large” for the Ftplog.txt file.

I’m now loading v10.37Q build 28. All OK until the very end when I get this error message:

Error
C:\WINNT\system32\FLASHENCODER.AX
Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code OX3
Click Retry to try again, Ignore to proceed anyway (not recommended), or Abort to cancel installation.

I have Retried many times and Aborted twice and reinstalled. Suggestions?

New Strange action:

Even though every time I got the Error message above I hit either Retry or Abort (never Ignore!) and never saw a “Installation Complete” kind of message, When I Aborted and hit the W-D shortcut in the tray which goes to C:\wdisplay\WeatherD.exe, it opened 10.37Q build 28! Not only does it say so on the top of the W-D screen but in the “About” window. Where did build 23 go? Do I have to do anything more to complete installing build 28?

Thanks,
Larry

just click on ignore in the install
this problem only happens with windows2000
there is another thread about this and it seems copyijng te file Gdiplus.dll to c:\winnt\system\ is a solution

please define the size above which is "too large" for the Ftplog.txt file.
and so what is the file size currently?

ftplog.txt is currently 46KB.

did you manage to upgrade to the latest version?

Yes, it’s now running build 28. When it wouldn’t take FLASHENCODER.AX I just hit “Ignore” as you said to.

Thanks,
Larry

and so is the problem gone away now , now that you are running a version with out the memory leak?

Unfortunately no. After installing build 28 using “ignore” for FLASHENCODER.AX I ran it last night and after around 7 hours it did the same thing. I’ve rebooted just now; perhaps something different will happen. Is there any chance not yet copying the file Gdiplus.dll to c:\winnt\system\ could affect this?

Thanks,
Larry
