I currently use VWS on my vantage pro http://www.rdking.com
Im thinking of switching to WD just to have access to the carter lake templates for my site.
my question is why is WD a better program than VWS?
you can run them both at the same time, using virtualVP
WD gives you more detailed climate data than VWS does, thats one good thing, I would say
I would also add the support from Brian and everyone else from this forum too.
if i switch ill probably run it on my imac instead of a pc.
right now i have a dedicated pc running vws
ive thought about using virtualvp but dont know anything about it
I switched from VWS to WD a couple of years ago. I also discovered VirtualVP (since I use a Davis station) at that time and gave it a whirl, running both VWS and WD in parallel for a while. I migrated all the Internet site updates (WUnderground, WeatherBug, etc.) from the VWS to the WD over time, turning off the updating in VWS as I turned on the updating from WD.
After a while, there was nothing left on VWS that I didn’t have in WD except for quick and easy access to weather alerts from various far-flung Mesonet locations (they show up in the area right under the menu buttons in VWS along with a red square–easy to see). I like to know what weather alerts are in effect for areas far from my station location so I can call my parents or grandmother and let them know a big winter storm is coming, for example.
I have no doubt that ability exists in WD (since everything else under the sun does), but I just can’t find it.
I had intended to run in parallel for only a month or so, but here it is several years later and VirtualVP lets me have both worlds at the same time.
If I could, I’d love to find the equivalent feature in WD and dump VWS for good. In the meantime, running both is absolutely no problem.
