Struggling newbie - problem #2. FTP Test Webcam upload works but not timed uplo

I got my test FTP Webcam upload to work and believe I have set up every 5 minutes upload. Turned on green switch – nothing.

What have I not done.

Screen attached.

Is the main internet switch turned on? This can be done under Action/set main internet switch on/off.

Yes

Just for fun remove the entry, save the settings and then select the file again and see what happens.

Same for File Save in Web Cam Capture

try unchecking the little box “update every minute”

Cleared everything out of FTP Upload, exited and saved WD.
Restarted WD. Reset setting for in Web Cam for Webcam Capture App. Reestablished everything in WebCapture App to my liking. Started it. jpgwebcam.jpg and I can see they are being updated in the folderwebcamimage.gif being saved each minute as before into wdisplay/webfiles/webcam folder. (I might point out that while I think I have everything setup for time stamping I have yet to see a time stamped file.)

Back to WD setup FTP Web upload, test upload - works, set up time schedule every 5 minutes — NOTHING!

Back into FTP Webcam upload uncheck upload these files, test upload - gets uploaded anyway. hereOK out of Webcam Upload and come back is automatically checked again (default I believe) - no change in timed behavior.

Exasperated! I know there are many past experiences of this kind but I don’t have the magic touch. The program shows a lot of promise but so far I am holding on to my $70 until it works.

let me ask you a question… Is the camera set up in the control panel to produce the image, that is … if you are using WD to capture your image? IF that is the case you need to http://discourse.weather-watch.com/t/53052, then that should start up the webcam capture… if it is on your tak bar, a grey box with a camera picture in it… then you should be fine.

Now if you are producing the image using different software, then you might want to try this. Under the general FTP tab, click to that tab and have that function upload your image for you.

set up the same stuff under that tab and see if it uploads your new images

I am using the WD direct cam capture program which you describe (start from the tray, etc) - not a 3rd party program. WD direct program is working fine.

What isn’t working is when I go back into WD FTP - Webcam Upload - the test upload works but after that, after setting up the the 5 minute intervals - nothing. I will try the General FTP tab but if timed events are not being triggered I would not expect that to work any better.

I will also try uploading both jpgwebcam.jpg AND webcamimage.gif - some one in bug reports said it started working with two files rather than one.

Note that time stamped file names are also not being generated from jpgwebcam.jpg or webcams age.gif files which WDwebcamcapture.exe is creating. Somewhere there is a switch to start timed events.

Time stamped files are controlled from Control Panel - Web Cam, far right side of control panel if memory serves correctly.

Is their a separate Web Cam Capture Icon in your task bar, separate from the WD icon?

Yes I am using WebCamCapture.exe.

Time stamped images are supposed to be set up here. Second tab from the left in the Wb Cam Image screen. But I’m get nothing.

Alas I have made progress.

I decided to give up and reinstall from scratch when I recalled that I had installed 10.37P B44 in a separate folder wdisplay32old as Brian said I should use ftpup.exe from that version as I plan eventually to use dial up to upload from a remote farmers field. For now I have my home always on internet.

Now everything is working - timestamping, uploading. I am off and running to my next problem.

I suppose eventually update but for now I am happy.

I don’t know what went wrong with 10.37R but I probably hacked it up with my random walk through the setup.

I am sure I will back with another problem.

so using the old ftpupd.exe with the 10.37R is working?

Well actually no or I’m not sure. I realized this morning that while I started WeatherD.exe in the wdisplay32old folder I later restarted it using a shortcut pointing at WeatherD.exe in wdisplay (10.37R). The window headline said 10.37PB44 in both cases. When I went into wdisplay32old and started WeatherD.exe the headline was the same but the data was different (I got my OS WMR88A yesterday). Going back to the short gets me back to 37P and my overnight data.

I am using the old ftpupd.exe which I had copied into the wdisplay folder - that was where I got into trouble.

Now that I have gained confidence (and will buy the program) and have learned how to set it up, I would like to uninstall everything (saving the old ftpupd.exe somewhere) and reinstall 37R and try again. I haven’t tried dial up yet but need to end up there.

Remind me how to uninstall , something called unwise.exe I recall.

in WD go , action, delete windows registry entry (recent version)
then exit WD
then delete the file wdisplay.ini, where WD is installed
try that
